We are seeking a doctoral candidate in Political Science with an interest in sustainable natural resource governance. You will become part of the newly established research program MiningBrines. The program offers an innovative doctoral training initiative designed to address Europe’s strategic need for sustainable access to critical raw materials, energy gases, and renewable energy. The program will involve 19 doctoral candidates across disciplines including Political Science, Geosciences, Biogeochemistry, Artificial Intelligence, and Economics. It emphasizes collaborative doctoral training to meet the growing demand for highly qualified professionals capable of transforming geothermal multi-resources into a key driver of Europe’s green transition. Project description The overall aim of this PhD project is to analyze the various epistemic, economic, legal, political, and social dimensions of acceptance related to brine mining projects, using established qualitative and quantitative methods based on public opinion and community attitudes. The project comprises three main tasks: a) Identify key socio-economic and environmental factors in ongoing brine mining activities; b) Integrate factors (socio-demographic, technological, and resource-related), attitudes, and values that influence acceptance of multi-resource extraction projects into a model; and c) Use the model to assess effects on acceptance of brine mining. You will have the opportunity to select appropriate theoretical frameworks and make decisions regarding the operationalization of variables, methods, and analytical strategies. Ihre Aufgaben • Bedienung und Bestückung von Nesting CNC Maschinen (Marke Homag oder Esko) • Kommissionieren von Zubehören / Beschlägen für die gefertigten Produkte • Überwachung der Nachbearbeitung der Produkte durch die Produktionshelfenden • Eigenständiges nachsteuern und anpassen der Maschineneinstellungen • Fertigungssteuerung der Laderaumausstattungen aus Holz bzw. Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies is looking for 23 trainees to work on various tasks supporting the Collegium administration and research fellows. The traineeships are part time (55%) for a fixed term; either 1.9.202631.1.2027 or 1.2.30.6.2027, with a two-month probationary period. About the positions The main duty of a trainee is to assist Collegium fellows in their research projects. Typical tasks include literature search and review, collecting and processing research materials, and helping to prepare manuscripts for publication through editing, proofreading, checking bibliographies, and compiling book indexes. Trainees also support the Collegium's administrative staff with organizing academic events, communications, and other related tasks. The person we are looking for We are looking for University of Helsinki Master's students with an interest in assisting researchers working in the social sciences and humanities. We welcome applicants from both traditional qualitative research backgrounds and those with computational or digital humanities skills, such as network analysis and text analysis using NLP tools. Beyond research skills, we also value willingness to take on practical duties related to organizing events, and appreciate candidates who bring a positive attitude, team spirit, and strong organizational skills. The University of Helsinki International trainee programme is open to all international students enrolled in a University of Helsinki masters programme. We are looking for a TRAINEE for the Democracy makers and Politicizing Environmental Emergency -projects funded by Kone Foundation (PI Eeva Luhtakallio). The duration of a traineeship is from 1 September 2026 to 31 December 2026 (four months) of part-time (55%) work, leaving time for studies as well. The salary of a trainee is €852 per month for a part-time (55%) trainee. About the position The trainee is expected to contribute to the work of the two projects, the first being a research infrastructure and community oriented effort taking place within Centre for Sociology of Democracy, and the latter a more classical research project. The trainee will assist the PI and her team in varying tasks from assisting at events and seminars to conducting preliminary analyses of survey data, helping with writing literature reviews, and other research activities. The trainee can also participate in the political sociology research seminar organized within the CSD. The trainee will have a possibility to conduct their Masters thesis in the project. The person we are looking for We are looking for a trainee who wants to contribute as a team member. Bachelor level studies in sociology with a particular focus on and interest in the political sociology political participation, social movements, activism, and so on would be the best fit.
