Research overview:
We are looking for a PhD candidate to join our project within the Collaborative Research Center 1530 “Elucidation and targeting of pathogenic mechanisms in B cell malignancies”.
As a part of this interdisciplinary research consortium, we will analyze histopathology image data to improve diagnosis, risk stratification and outcome prediction in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. A major focus of the project is the identification of morphological and spatial tissue features associated with Richter transformation, i.e. the progression of CLL into aggressive lymphoma.
The project combines state-of-the-art machine learning, image analysis and cancer biology. In later stages of the project, image-derived information will be integrated with other data modalities, such as transcriptomic and genomic data.
The PhD project is jointly supervised by two principal investigators with complementary expertise in computational image analysis and hematology.
Research Environment:
Bozek Lab: Located at the biomedical campus of the University of Cologne the “Data Science of Bioimages lab” is working on data-intensive problems in biomedicine by combining machine learning, statistical and other computational methods. Image data and deep learning solutions represent key focus of our research. As a** Founder’s Associate Intern**, you will work directly with the founders on strategic and operational priorities across the entire organization. You will play a key supporting role in scaling a category-defining cloud company that aims to outcompete AWS and reshape cloud infrastructure from the ground up. WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Operate at the Core of the Business: Support strategic and operational initiatives across departments (Product, Commercial, Finance, Operations) to drive progress on the company’s most important priorities.
- Support the Founders on Key Initiatives: Contribute to research, preparation, and execution of projects led by the founders; ranging from investor, vendor, and partner engagements to internal projects.
- Own and Deliver High-Impact Workstreams: Take ownership of high-priority workstreams from analysis to follow-through while ensuring tasks move forward quickly, reliably, and with high quality.
- Keep Stakeholders Aligned: Ensure smooth information flow online and offline across teams and external stakeholders (e.g., investors, partners, lawyers), delivering updates precisely and on time.
- Enable AI-Driven Efficiency: Help evaluate and implement cutting-edge AI tools to unlock efficiency and operational leverage across departments.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Exceptional Academic Performance: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor’s or Master’s program with top marks (e.g., business, economics, engineering, computer science, data science, or related).
- Experience: You have a proven track record of working in a dynamic and fast paced environment (e.g. consulting or start-ups)
- Analytical & Structured Thinking: You break problems down clearly, build insight from research/data, and communicate results in a concise narrative.

We created mid 2022 a new organization “Operations Performance & Continuous Improvement” (PCI) and therefore are searching for a
Operations Performance & Continuous Improvement (PCI) Leader (f/m/d)
at Airbus Helicopters in Donauwörth.
The mission of this new organization:
- Boost AOS (Airbus Operating System) deployment in Operations, focusing on our “Industrial Basics”
- Accelerate and strengthen continuous improvement and problem solving within Operations
- Accelerate and sustain performance increase of operational flows and teams
Your location
At our Donauwörth site, located on the banks of the river Danube, we develop helicopters from the initial idea to the airworthy product. Watch them take off and touch down on our own on-site test airfield.

Your tasks and responsibilities:
- Share the PCI ambition, define priorities and strategic roadmap with operations top management of your perimeter
- Ensure yearly PCI objectives cascading to operational teams
- Deploy VSA (Value Stream Analysis) and Kaizen Productivity initiatives to continuously analyze and improve the efficiency of our industrial flows
- Coach and spread Gemba On-Job-Training by managers on our industrial basics, while recognizing ops teams on progress achieved
- Structure, motivate, develop and sustain our local PCI Network
- Organize/perform best practices sharing and return on experience
- Drive, support & develop managers & teams, local PCI leaders and improvers (including training plans definition and execution) on:
1- Continuous maturity increase & sustainability of our “industrial mgt basics” (e.g. : KPI Tree & Perfo Mgt, 5S, QRQC, Prod Pace Control, MCR, Gemba OJT, MPS, Line Balancing, Poly/Poly, Standard Agenda, …), using our AOS requirements & standards
2- Continuous improvement plans definition and efficient management to permanently increase SQCDP performance
3- Performance diagnosis & improvement initiatives facilitation (e.g. : Value Stream Analysis, OEE, SMED, Kaizen workforce efficiency analysis…)
Desired skills and qualifications:
- Fully autonomous Lean Manufacturing Expert, with production management and supply chain background in large international companies, able to perform lean diagnosis and organize lean transformation of a complete factory using lean principles & tools
- Ability to build and drive improvement teams, and ensure the execution of defined roadmaps, anticipate risks and manage them with operational management
- Knowledge of the financial system
- Ability to develop teams on lean principles & tools
- Proactivity and action orientation, courage & tenacity
- Energy, positive attitude, ability to inspire, embark & motivate teams, interpersonal and workshop/training facilitation skills, influencing skills, tactical intelligence
- Experience in change management
- Open mindedness & transparency
