Comparison of third countries’ national and regional qualifications frameworks with the EQF
The European Qualifications Framework (EQF) has the potential to facilitate transparency and recognition of qualifications internationally. Comparing EQF with national and regional qualifications frameworks of third countries will enable a better understanding of other national and regional qualifications frameworks in Europe and vice versa. One of the key benefits of comparison will be to make the recognition of qualifications easier for:
- People who move to EU country to learn or work
- Education and training institutions, employers and other stakeholders who receive workers or learners from other countries
In the EQF Recommendation 2017, the Commission and the Member States were recommended to explore the possibility of comparing third countries' national and regional qualifications frameworks with the EQF. The purpose of comparing qualifications frameworks is not to persuade other qualification frameworks to comply with the EQF, but to thoughtfully evaluate whether various aspects of both are comparable and to create a mutual understanding of the frameworks.
The EQF comparison exercise is still in its pilot phase and the comparison reports of these pilots are available below.
