Launch of the Futurium Group to Enhance Collaboration on the Use of the European Learning Model
In response to the growing rate and scale of European Digital Credentials for Learning, the European Commission launched the Futurium Group for the European Learning Model, a platform designed to foster collaboration and share experiences and good practices among stakeholders and implementers. This initiative aims to support the continuous improvement and adoption of the European Learning Model and European Digital Credentials for Learning infrastructure. It is further of interest for the publication of qualifications and learning opportunities data on the Europass Platform by Member States.
The primary aim of the Futurium Group is to connect implementers, facilitate exchange on existing solutions for implementation in different education and training domains, whether nationally or at a European level, and keep stakeholders updated with the latest developments of the European Learning Model and European Digital Credentials for Learning.
Additionally, the group will serve as a channel for providing feedback on the EDC infrastructure and the ELM, as well as to express interest for specific improvements and new features.
Structured Sub-Groups
The Futurium Group will comprise several sub-groups to cater to specific interests and needs:
Main Group for the European Learning Model: focused on implementers’ standard application and overarching strategies, centred around the data model itself.
Sub-Group for European Digital Credentials (EDC) implementers: dedicated to entities issuing or planning to issue digital credentials.
Developer Corner: a space for those implementing the open-source version of the infrastructure, encouraging technical collaboration.
Sub-Group for the Qualifications Dataset Register (QDR): a forum for Member States publishing learning opportunities, qualifications or accreditation datasets in the QDR to share insights and best practices (accessible only upon invite to relevant national authorities)
Free to access, the Futurium group promotes inclusivity and enables broad participation. The European Learning Model Team anticipates that this platform will provide implementers with valuable opportunities to connect, learn from each other's experiences, and collectively advance the interoperability of learning and the digital labour market in Europe.
Next Steps
To introduce the structure, content and functions of this new Futurium Group, the European Learning Model Team hosted a Webinar on 25 September 2024. In addition to familiarising participants with the platform's features and objectives, this event served as an opportunity to gather initial feedback and suggestions from the community of ELM users. The slides from the event are available below. You will also soon be able to access a Q&A document of the questions posed during the webinar on the Futurium!
