Two Postdoctoral Researchers in Mathematical and Computational Oncology for Personalized Breast Cancer Treatment

We are seeking two ambitious Postdoctoral Researchers to join the Köhn-Luque group at the Oslo University Hospital. These 3-year positions are part of a high-impact project funded by the Norwegian Cancer Society titled “Precision biomarkers for CDK4/6 inhibition in breast cancer”. Start date: Negotiable (immediate preference).

About the project: The core objective is to develop, validate and initiate clinical translation of precision biomarkers for CDK4/6 inhibitors in breast cancer. Following previous work from Köhn-Luque’s group (Schmiester et al. Clin Cancer Res 2024; Lai et al Cancer Res 2019), we plan to integreate extensive preclinical and clinical data with mechanistic mathematical modeling and machine learning to deliver personalized treatment recommendations.

The candidates will join a multidisciplinary research team at the Department of Medical Genetics at the Oslo University Hospital. In addition, they will collaborate with researchers and clinicians in different institutions in Norway and abroad, including Integreat: The Norwegian Centre for Knowledge-driven Machine Learning, the Akerhus University Hospital, northeast of Oslo, and the Clinic Hospital in Barcelona. The candidates will also be involved in a SPARK Norway innovation project that is exploring the commercial potential of mathematical and computational biomarkers.

The Department of Medical Genetics at Oslo University Hospital is Norway’s largest medical genetics department with over 200 employees. The department is responsible for diagnostics of rare and inherited diseases, and runs a national research infrastructure for high-throughput DNA sequencing at the Norwegian Consortium for Sequencing and Personalized Medicine. The research section in the department has several research groups working in various fields of medical genetics, including breast cancer, the genetics of autoimmune, neurological, cardiovascular and psychiatric disorders, epigenetics causes of disease, as well as groups focusing on mathematical modeling, artificial intelligence and bioinformatics. 

Integreat is a centre of excellence funded by the Research Council of Norway of the University of Oslo, UiT the Arctic University of Norway and the Norwegian Computing Center. Researchers in Integreat develop theories, methods, models, and algorithms that integrate general and domain-specific knowledge with data. By combining the mathematical and computational cultures, and the methodologies of statistics, logic and machine learning in unique ways, Integreat's machine learning will solve fundamental problems in science, technology, health and society, and contribute to make Norway a world leading country in AI. 

SPARK Norway is the UiO: Life Science’s innovation programe within health-related life sciences. It provides mentoring, milestone-based funding and education to further develop promising ideas.

Job descriptions

Position 1: Mathematical Modeler in Oncology.

The focus is on modeling and simulating underlying biological mechanisms of drug response. Main tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Model development: Construct and refine mechanistic mathematical models (predominantly systems of ODEs) that describe the pharmacodynamics of CDK4/6 inhibitors and interaction with other targeted therapies.
  • Data management: Curate, analyze and maintain molecular and clinical datasets
  • Data integration: Perform sophisticated calibration and parameter estimation using high-dimensional longitudinal data, including transcriptomics and proteomics.
  • Predictive Simulations: Use validated models to perform in silico trials, identifying optimal dosing schedules and resistance-evading combinations.

Position 2: Machine Learning Researcher in Oncology.

The focus  is on integrating machine learning and mechanistic modeling to discover underlying biological mechanisms from data. Main tasks include, but are not limited, to:

  • Model learning evaluation: Conduct rigorous evaluations of model learning approaches for noisy and high-dimensional data.
  • Hybrid frameworks: Extend hybrid machine learning frameworks (e.g., Universal Differential Equations, Universal Physics-Informed Neural Networks) to represent unknown biological pharmacodynamics from multi-omics data.
  • Interpretability: Discover parsimonious mathematical expressions from omics data using symbolic regression, specifically to understand how interpretable biomarkers enter and govern the functional forms of mechanistic models.
  • Benchmarking: Establish rigorous pipelines to compare the predictive performance of hybrid and symbolic models.

The physical working location will be at the Department of Medical Genetics, Section for Research and Development. From January 2027, the Department will move to the Life Science building, providing the applicants the exciting opportunity to work in Norway’s largest and most modern research building.

Qualifications

Education: A PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related quantitative field. The PhD degree must be obtained by the start date.
Computational expertise: Extensive experience in scientific computing and software development. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain code (Python, Julia, R, or C++)
Mathematical Modeling (Position 1): Deep theoretical and practical expertise in dynamical systems, numerical analysis of ODEs/PDEs, statistical inference, parameter estimation and optimization for systems biology modeling.
Machine Learning (Position 2): Strong theoretical and practical experience in machine learning, specifically in dynamical model learning methods (e.g., neural differential equations, symbolic regression).

Experience in the following topics will be considered an advantage:

  • Experience with transcriptomics and proteomics data.
  • Experience working on servers and/or in a HPC environment.

Personal qualities

The Opportunity — Backend Engineering

Join us to build the core systems that enable thousands of children through the AV1 robot. As a Backend Engineer proficient in Golang, you will be at the intersection of complex, real-time technical challenges.

Our solutions are scaling across continents, and we need your expertise to improve existing services and implement novel features. The backend you will co-own and further develop supports real-time communication between our fleet of robots, mobile apps, and web clients. You will be engineering high-performance systems to handle live video, audio, events, and last but not least, massive data collection to enable new customer value through our growing unique proprietary dataset.

You will design, build, and evolve the APIs, services, modules and system integrations that are vital to our ecosystem. You will be entrusted to make critical architectural decisions, model data for correctness and scale, and engineer for resilience. You will enjoy the focus on writing well-instrumented code and will get the chance to further raise the bar for how we design and operate our systems to deliver reliable, life-changing experiences for the children and schools we serve.


What You’ll Do — Scope & Responsibilities

Backend systems design & implementation

  • Design and implement backend APIs and shared modules, primarily in Golang, that connect robots, mobile apps, web clients, and cloud services

  • Select and configure the right paradigms for the job, including WebRTC, gRPC, web sockets, REST, and newer technologies

  • Develop data models, schemas, and safe up/down migrations across relational, NoSQL, and analytical stores

  • Design container-based, event-driven services and asynchronous processing pipelines that handle real-world usage patterns

  • Align on system design and architecture in collaboration with peers, and maintain clear troubleshooting runbooks

  • Embrace both unit and end-to-end testing so we ship confidently

  • Collaborate closely with frontend/mobile, platform, and embedded teams to shape APIs, contracts, and integration patterns

Team collaboration & enablement

  • Role-model AI tooling adoption (e.g., Claude Code, custom agents) to accelerate backend engineering in a safe, deliberate way

  • Contribute to developer experience by refining tooling, local dev environments, and shared libraries for backend work

  • Document key flows, patterns, and decisions so others can self-serve and move faster with confidence

  • Support internal stakeholders with data and internal tools that reduce 3rd-line support load and improve incident handling

  • Help evolve our data pipelines and assets for analytics, user insights, and future predictive modelling

Operational security and reliability

  • Instrument backend services with top observability standards

  • Collaborate with Platform Engineering on container deployment and orchestration (Kubernetes, Terraform)

  • Build for correctness, durability, resilience, and performance by design, not as an afterthought

  • Participate in incident response, debugging, and post-incident reviews

  • Embed secure coding practices throughout the development lifecycle, from design reviews to code reviews and rollout

  • Apply robust AuthN/AuthZ patterns, encryption, data-integrity controls, and secure service-to-service communication


What You Bring — Experience & Capabilities

  • Backend engineering: Deep experience in Golang, API design, backend architecture, and distributed systems. You have implemented services using e.g. WebRTC, gRPC, sockets, REST, and other web protocols. You can strike trade-offs between cost and performance

  • Operational familiarity: Proven experience with AWS services. You have been hands-on with the likes of Sentry and Grafana. You are comfortable with some exposure to Terraform and Kubernetes

  • Data & storage competence: Solid experience with relational, NoSQL, OLAP databases and caches (e.g. MySQL, MongoDB, ClickHouse, Redis). You know how to model data, optimize queries, tune performance, and design for failover and recovery

  • Security & quality mindset: You build systems that are correct, predictable, secure, and maintainable. You inform key security aspects such as proper secrets handling, encryption standards, rate limiting and vulnerability management

  • Technical collaboration: Clear, direct communication, with empathy when working with frontend/mobile, embedded, platform, and non-technical peers. You are comfortable leading technical discussions, and are able to change your mind in light of new evidence

  • Technical education and experience: Higher education in a STEM field (BSc/MSc). Practical experience in backend engineering. You have worked at product companies before, ideally across multiple stacks or domains

Role Overview

We are seeking a Technical Project Manager to lead the development and implementation of our bicycle rental platform and operational setup. The role requires a structured and analytical professional capable of managing complex, cross-functional projects, establishing scalable processes, and ensuring operational readiness in a growing business.

This position combines technical project management, process optimisation, and business operations, with a strong focus on building efficient, automated, and data-driven systems.

Key Responsibilities

·       Lead end-to-end project planning and execution for the development and launch of the bicycle rental platform

·       Establish and drive operational readiness, including processes for fleet management, maintenance, and customer operations

·       Design and implement automated workflows and digital systems for booking, subscription management, billing, and reporting

Om jobbet

  • Forberedelse og tilberedning af autentiske kinesiske retter, især nudelretter og klassiske specialiteter

  • Sikre høj kvalitet i madlavningen samt overholdelse af hygiejnestandarder

  • Samarbejde med det øvrige køkkenteam i en travl hverdag

Vi forventer, at du:

  • Har erfaring som kok, gerne med speciale i kinesisk køkken eller nudelretter

  • Er ansvarsbevidst, arbejdsom og kan arbejde effektivt

  • Kan arbejde selvstændigt og samtidig indgå i et team

  • Har interesse for og forståelse af autentisk kinesisk madkultur

Som Restaurantchef er du den, der får dagligdagen til at fungere og oplevelsen til at føles rigtig.

Dine opgaver vil blandt andet være:

  • Overordnet ansvar for den daglige drift i restauranten

  • Planlægning og afvikling af service, events og selskaber

  • Ledelse, motivation og udvikling af tjener- og værtsteamet

  • At sikre høj service, stærkt værtskab og øje for detaljen

  • Udarbejdelse og opfølgning på vagtplaner, budgetter og nøgletal

  • Indkøb, lagerstyring og tæt samarbejde med køkkenet

  • Sikring af hygiejne, fødevaresikkerhed og gældende lovgivning

  • Rekruttering, onboarding og oplæring af nye medarbejdere

  • Håndtering af gæstesager, altid professionelt og ordentligt

Vi forestiller os, at du:

  • Har erfaring som leder inden for restaurant- eller hotelbranchen

  • Har styr på drift, vagtplanlægning og økonomi

  • Er serviceorienteret og god til at skabe trygge rammer

Rengøringsassistenter der bor i nærheden vil blive fortrukket. Der er tale om små pladser der giver få timer hver uge. 

Hverdagene rengøring starter mellem kl. 17:00 - 20:00

Lørdagens rengøring kan også starte fredag efter kl 17:00. Man skal senest være started lørdag kl 19:00 

Vi har ikke deltid eller fultids stillinger. Straffeattest kræves.

Tofthøjvej, Viby: Every Monday  after 17:00 for 2 hours, every Tuesday after 18:30 for 2 hours, every Thursday after 17:00 for 2 hours, every Saturday for 2 hours.

Cleaning assistants living nearby will be preferred. These are small positions that offer a few hours each week.

The weekdays the cleaning starts between 17:00 -20:00

Saturday cleaning can also start on Friday after 17:00. You must have started no later than Saturday at 19:00.

We do not offer part-time or full-time positions. Criminal record is required.
