DTU Skylab is looking for an experienced innovation professional with a strong background in climate and sustainability to lead the development and integration of climate-focused activities across DTU’s early engagement initiatives and startup programs.

As our new colleague you will play a central role in strengthening the pipeline and support structures for climate-related startups emerging from DTU. You will drive the strategic integration of climate and sustainability efforts across DTU Skylab’s programme architecture (from early engagement to startup journey), building on the experience of previous initiatives such as DTU Earthbound while further developing new formats, partnerships and support structures. 

You will also contribute to strengthening DTU Skylab’s collaboration with Danish, European and international partners working at the intersection of climate, innovation and entrepreneurship.

About the position
As our new Innovation Consultant, you will take a leading role in developing DTU Skylab's approach to how climate and sustainability become an integrated part of our activities and are translated into practice across programs and initiatives.

Building close collaborations with colleagues and partners across DTU and externally, you will focus on strengthening the climate- and sustainability dimension within the DTU Skylab Startup programme and related offers for startups. This includes working with the Skylab startup support team to further develop and implement an ‘Earth track’ aligned with Skylab´s startup program and the new pre-scaleup track targeted at researchers and students. You will lead the development of module content with DTU and Skylab colleagues working on climate and sustainability, as well as relevant external partners. 

Together with colleagues supporting community-activities, you will also help shape frameworks and initiatives for the continued development of a climate-focused startup community. 

Within the Student Innovation Team, you will strengthen and develop complementary focus on climate in activities and programs offered within the inspiration, early engagement and idea-development phases. This includes working closely with colleagues across the Student Innovation team to identify opportunities for new partnerships, contribute to shaping and advancing climate-related cases and integrate relevant content/methods into programmes, as well as connecting these activities with the strong knowledge resources on this topic with DTU’s departments and centres.

What we imagine you bring

• Min. 10 years of experience working with sustainable innovation, ideally also at the intersection of innovation, entrepreneurship and climate within a university-based innovation or startup environment

• Strong experience in strategy development, programme design and partnership building within innovation and entrepreneurship

• Proven experience establishing collaborations and cross-sector partnerships, track record in securing philanthropic or external funding is an advantage 

• An established network across Danish universities and innovation ecosystem, including familiarity with DTU’s ecosystem, network with other European and international innovation ecosystems is a plus

• Experience with innovation methodologies and facilitation

• Excellent communication skills in both English and Danish

• Relevant academic background

The Department of Energy Conversion and Storage (DTU Energy), the Section for Autonomous Materials Discovery and the Pioneer Center for Accelerating P2X Materials Discovery (CAPeX) invite applications for a position as Scientific Software Developer (SSD) in the field of digitalizing materials discovery and development of FAIR and interoperable workflows. DTU Energy is focusing on accelerating the discovery and development of new materials and technologies for energy conversion and storage, e.g. fuel and solar cells, batteries, membranes, magnetic refrigeration and thermoelectrics, electrolysis and sustainable synthetic fuels and chemicals. 

The job
You will support DTU Energy in ensuring that modern digital concepts shape future materials research and discovery, including the participation in large-scale digitalization initiatives at the national and international level, such as CAPeX and the MaterialsCommons activities (https://materialscommons4.eu ), where you will collaborate closely with European partners. Here, you will design and operate federated, interoperable and FAIR workflows that connect self‑driving laboratories (SDLs), computational pipelines and AI tools across partners making data, tools and processes machine‑actionable and reusable.

The tasks of the Scientific Software Developer include:

• Positioning DTU as an institution that plays a pioneering role in the development of guidelines for handling research data in materials science and engineering, and utilize AI-tools for accelerated materials discovery
• Integrating industrial requirements (e.g., digital product passport) into the materials science workflow
• Advancing and advising on digital solutions for tasks related to the technical safety of products and processes
• Providing impetus for existing and initiating new third-party funded research projects and research collaborations
• Coordination, preparation, execution and reporting of project events, workshops and tutorials

Our expectations of you
We are looking for a scientific software developer who can translate FAIR/semantic concepts into robust, usable software. 

You should have:

• An MSc or PhD degree in computer science, materials science, physics or chemistry (or similar related field)
• Proficiency in Python and modern software engineering (testing, CI/CD, packaging, Git).
• Hands‑on experience with one or more workflow systems (e.g., AiiDA, pyiron, Apache Airflow, SimStack, PerQueue) and containerization (Docker/Conda).
• Working knowledge of FAIR and linked‑data technologies (e.g., JSON‑LD/RDF) and willingness to work with domain ontologies (e.g., EMMO/PMDco).
• Solid knowledge in the field of computer simulations for materials physics/chemistry and materials science issues
• Excellent English communication skills and an ability to collaborate across disciplines and institutions.

You should preferably also have:

• Experience with databases, building APIs/data pipelines and integrating with ELNs and/or instruments.
• Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning
• Problem-solving skills and an entrepreneurial attitude with a go-to attitude
• Ability to work independently and to plan and carry out complicated tasks.
• Ability to be a part of a dynamical multi-disciplinary department and network with project partners and international collaborators.

We work with our colleagues across the department on various projects related to sustainable energy materials.

The Pioneer Center for Accelerating P2X Materials Discovery
The Pioneer Center unites leading Power2X experts from five Danish and three international universities in conducting fundamental strategic research and delivering transformative breakthroughs across scientific disciplines, methods, and sustainable and scalable materials discovery and development. By building upon recent advances in complementary fields like computational materials design, operando characterization, and scalable materials synthesis, as well as autonomous robotics, digital twins, AI, and machine learning, CAPeX will reinvent how we invent new sustainable materials for Power2X (www.capex.dtu.dk).

Salary and appointment terms
