We are seeking a research assistant to help with the Department's research on how children learn to use and understand language. The role will focus primarily on the annotation and analysis of high-density behavioural data from caregiver-child interactions (e.g., video, audio, and eye-tracking data). They will also help increasing the visibility of the Baby and Child Research Center amongst parents and early years practitioners (teachers, health visitors, etc.) in the local and regional community. This position would suit a graduate with an interest in language development, cognitive science, or related fields, particularly those who would like to gain experience in behavioural data annotation and, optionally, computational modeling. The RA will work together with Dr. Yayun Zhang on a project that uses eye-tracking and computational modeling to investigate how children integrate linguistic, visual, and social cues during shared book reading to learn verbs. Activities - Transcribing and organizing multimodal datasets (e.g., video, audio, eye-tracking) - Preprocessing high-density behavioral data - Assisting with data analysis and interpretation - Supporting (or learning to contribute to) computational modeling efforts - Assisting with general lab coordination and data management - Helping to develop and implement a (social) media and visibility strategy Requirements
