The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, Aarhus University, invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor (or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications) position in digital detailed design and operation of the building enclosure and services. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the advancement of integrated design and digitalization of buildings for low carbon and high quality of life while educating and mentoring the next generation of engineers and researchers.
 

Expected start date and duration of employment

This is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor position from 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
 

Job description

The appointed candidate is expected (1) to develop a research programme in digital detailed design and operation of buildings that address the transition of building stock towards low carbon and high quality of life, and (2) to deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate should have demonstrated expertise in building information modelling (BIM) and building energy modelling (BEM) for detailed design and operation of building enclosure components and building services. Ideally, the candidate has experience in digitalization of whole building, environmental and economic lifecycle assessment and/or digitalization of technical commissioning processes and building operation. It is also expected that the candidate is or becomes able to attract substantial external funding for independent and collaborative research with national and international stakeholders.

The appointed candidate will actively contribute to our curriculum in sustainable building design and operation. The candidate is expected to teach courses where fundamentals and practical aspects of BIM are needed at undergraduate level and digital detailed design at graduate level.
 

Your profile

The candidate is expected to have a PhD degree in Building Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Architectural Engineering or similar domain. Previous employment as a Postdoc or similar is needed if the applicant is applying for the Tenure Track Assistant Professor position. A previous position as an Assistant Professor or similar is required if the applicant is applying for the Associate Professor position. The candidates are expected to have:
  • Documented experience in BIM and BEM for detailed design and building operation.
  • Extensive knowledge of building physics and HVAC systems.
  • An upward-trending record of high-quality academic publication.
  • Strong communication skills with different stakeholders within building sector.
  • Relevant teaching experience (depending on whether the position is assistant or associate) and commitment to high-quality teaching and mentorship.
  • Willingness to contribute to a good work environment. 



Who we are


Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering was established on January 1, 2021 in connection with Aarhus University’s reorganization of the engineering area. The department employs around 100 people and is responsible for research and education within the department’s scientific areas. We educate both Bachelors and Masters of Science in Engineering and around 950 students are enrolled in our study programs. Furthermore, we also offer an ambitious PhD program. Our PhD students have high academic ambitions and deliver high-quality results for both the private and the public sectors.

Through research and development, we forge sustainable technological solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing industry and society. Technical Sciences Tenure Track

Aarhus University offers talented scientists from around the world attractive career perspectives via the Technical Sciences Tenure Track Programme. Highly qualified candidates are appointed as Assistant Professors for a period of six years with the prospect of performance- based advancement to a tenured Associate Professorship.

The aim of the Technical Sciences Tenure Track Programme is to:

As part of the tenure track position, the candidate is offered:

As part of the Aarhus University Tenure Track Programme, the University carries out a mid-way evaluation to review the progress of the tenure track candidate after three years, according to the same criteria used in the final tenure review. The final tenure review is conducted after five and a half years. If the review is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor at Aarhus University.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range


Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

  • Collaborate closely with Sales Managers and Product Managers to ensure a strong customer-oriented support approach.
  • Offer regular feedback to your line manager to identify new applications, market needs, product opportunities, and service improvements.
  • Support certification, approvals, and testing activities relevant to the region.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of all technical documentation and assets; contribute to updates or new material when needed.



Internal & External Collaboration

  • Work within the regional technical team and contribute to cross-border initiatives.
  • Provide solutions-based technical advice to internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Act as a central point of contact for roofing-related technical topics within the region.



Travel & Work Environment

  • Work remotely from home (up to 3 days per week) within a flexible company culture.
  • Regular international travel within the region is required (Benelux focus + North Europe).

  • Engineering or technical degree (civil engineering is an asset).
  • Alternatively, a bachelor's degree with a strong technical orientation (mechanics, materials, construction, etc.).
  • Previous experience as a technical expert, ideally with exposure to façade or roof construction, is a strong advantage.
  • Fluent in Dutch and English.
  • Excellent communication abilities and interaction skills.

Required Work Experience and Responsibilities As an independent cook, you are responsible for the full operational execution of the kitchen. Your work experience includes the following core areas: Preparation and Quality Control: You supervise the preparation of dishes and carry them out independently. You assess the quality of ingredients and prepare the necessary resources. You perform mise-en-place, such as washing, cutting, and mixing. During the cooking process, you monitor quality based on doneness, taste, color, and texture.
