  • Shipyard Welders (ship welders)

Scan Con offers jobs at the Shipyards on Reparation and New Build Departments. 

Key tasks:

  • Help build and repair ships

  • Replace or repair metal parts of a ship's structure

  • Weld various types of metal, following blueprints and ensuring that the structure can withstand the pressure of the ocean

  • Inspect structures or materials to be welded

  • Monitor the welding process and adjust heat as necessary

  • Maintain equipment and machinery

  • Use a variety of equipment and methods to permanently join together various metal parts

  • Typically perform manual welding procedures using Shielded Metal Arc welding (SMAW) or Oxy-Acetylene torches, or use semiautomatic systems such as wire feeder machines

  • TIG welders - responsible for the fabrication and welding of aerospace tubular, sheet metal and casting engine components

  • TIG welders - tack welding, fabrication and fixtures to assist fabrication and welding

Skills:

  • English - must be able to communicate in English 

  • Mathematical skills to read blueprints, trim metal objects accurately and interpret model sketches

  • Understanding spatial reasoning for product dimensions

  • Comprehending 2D and 3D models correctly

  • Always attentive to detail and alert to ensure safety

  • Ability to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers

  • Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines

Experience:

  • Experience from shipyards 

  • Education or professional experience in a given position
