The Department of Technology and Innovation (ITI), Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites candidates to apply for one position of Full Professor in the area of Digital Design or Construction Automation. The anticipated start date is March 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. 

The strategic goal of this position is to strengthen SDUs position within civil and architectural engineering with focus on digitally driven sustainable construction.   Job Description

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing intellectual and academic leadership in Digital Design and/or Construction Automation and leading 

new research directions with the potential to transform practice.

  • Leading an internationally recognised programme of research, producing sustained high-quality

outputs in the leading journals of your discipline.

  • Securing research and innovation funding from Denmark, EU and international sources, including industry, with a strong track record of knowledge exchange and impact.

  • Obtaining research funding to sustain the growth and position SDU has as an international leader in the field of Digital Design and Construction Automation.

  • Leading strategic development and initiatives at the university and national levels, focusing on advancing sustainable developments in the built environment.

  • Developing and managing a research team that performs at an international level.

  • Supervising and mentoring PhD candidates, Postdoctoral researchers, Research Fellows, and early-career academics.

  • Disseminating research findings through high-impact publications, public engagement, industry implementation, and contributions to broader societal and academic communities.

  • Building and managing strategic collaborations with industrial and academic partners at both national and international levels.

  • Establishing collaborations across disciplines within SDU to foster interdisciplinary innovation.

  Qualifications

The position requires a university-level education (PhD) in Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Building Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. Candidates must demonstrate academic excellence in their field, evidenced by a strong track record of research achievements and peer-reviewed publications. Evidence of high-quality teaching should be presented through a statement of teaching philosophy and a proven record of course development in the relevant disciplinary area, as well as delivery at various educational levels. Commensurate with the seniority level of the position, it is expected:

  • Demonstrated academic excellence through a substantial and sustained record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications

  • Proven ability to secure research funding and effectively manage interdisciplinary projects

  • Leadership in developing and managing teams, research topics, and innovative educational programmes

  • A track record of supervising PhD candidates, Postdoctoral researchers, and Research Fellows, as well as mentoring academic staff

  • Considerable contributions to curriculum development and pedagogical innovation across various education levels

  • Documented experience with built experimental projects in academic contexts, particularly those addressing sustainability challenges in construction will be desirable.

  • A track record proving expertise in areas such as computational design, digital fabrication, architectural robotics, or large-scale additive manufacturing will be desirable.

  • Successful interdisciplinary collaborations with related fields, such as materials science, environmental engineering, computational sciences, or artificial intelligence.

  • Demonstrated expertise in emerging technologies applied to the built environment, including the integration of sustainable materials, biomaterials, circular design practices or other related developments.

  • Proven experience with data-driven methods will be regarded as advantageous.

  • Experience in developing and managing laboratory infrastructure for research and education.

  Conditions of Employment

Appointment as a Full Professor is permanent.

Position as Computational Analyst / Bioinformatician in RNA Therapeutics and Cardiometabolic Disease

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Computational Analyst / Bioinformatician / Staff Scientist (AC-TAP) to be a cornerstone and formative member of a new groundbreaking initiative at the University of Southern Denmark focussing on RNA therapeutics in cardiometabolic diseases (CMD).

This is a unique opportunity to lead a critical project at the intersection of (micro)RNA biology, 3D human model systems, nanomedicine, and computational (ML) disease modelling. You will be able to contribute to our vision to translate basic findings into medicinal RNA approaches to improve the lives of people suffering from cardiometabolic disease by discovering RNA-based targets from in-house and public genetic / transcriptomic datasets.

This two-year position (with the wish and possibility of extension for additional three years) is ideal for a scientist with computational expertise applied to genomics and metabolism that also has a passion of alleviating disease burden and who thrives by enabling biomedical researchers, developing pipelines for identification of (micro)RNA-based targets for therapeutic intervention, and mentoring students.

Our Vision: 

To pioneer RNA-based platforms to achieve gain-of-function in extrahepatic organs like adipose tissue and vascular cell types with the aim of alleviating cardiometabolic disease burden in human patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Benchmarking existing and developing novel computational approaches for inference of microRNA activities from single-cell/nucleus and spatial omics (NGS, MassSpec).

  • Interrogation of GWAS data for identifying protective human gain-of-function gene variants.

  • Supporting the group with (sc/sp) RNA-seq analysis and multi omics integration.

  • Assist with implementation of paralleled microRNA/mRNA single-cell seq like PSCSR-seq.

  • Training PhD students and post-docs to analyze large-scale datasets and interpreting results.

  • Provide input to projects in our group and help with illustrating complex biological datasets. 

Your Profile:

  • Documented expertise in computational biology, NGS data analysis, processing of experimental datasets of murine and human origin, network analysis and investigation of multi-omics datasets.

  • Proficiency in at least two of the following programming languages: Python, R.

  • Experience in Machine Learning and Computational RNA Biology are desirable.

  • Hands-on experience or understanding (the limitations) of wet lab (NGS) workflows is a plus.

  • Passion for complex data visualization and representing data into interpretable figures.

  • Several years of productive postdoctoral or PhD experience from industry, academic or core facility as evidenced by high-impact 1st author publications, patents or conference proceedings.

  • Satisfaction in training academic researchers and helping them succeed in their projects. 

  • A strong collaborator with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent communicator (written and verbal) with a passion for translating basic findings into RNA-based approaches to alleviate cardiometabolic disease burden.

  • Meticulous and organized, with a proven ability to manage complex projects and high-quality software curation (e.g., GitHub) according to FAIR guiding principles.

Are you interested in quantum computing? Do you have a keen interest in developing your skills in developing algorithms and software and build the quantum computing infrastructure in Denmark? Do you wish to play a pivotal role in advancing research in many different areas from all Danish researchers, for the benefit of society through Quantum computing?

We are looking for a skilled person with an interest in Quantum Computing (QC) to help us reach our goal of making QC easily accessible to all researchers at the Danish universities, public administration and industry.

At DeiC you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive support to researchers, industry, and public administration across Denmark, enabling them to harness the power of quantum computing for their projects. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, you work to ensure access to state-of-the-art QC resources and receive the technical guidance and assistance necessary to maximize the impact of their work.

The job
Quantum technology is rapidly developing. You will therefore join the QC department within DeiC in a development phase, working on a diverse set of tasks – matched to your skill set and interests – related to fully harness QC systems. This is especially relevant for researchers working on quantum research projects. Examples of typical tasks include: 

  • Developing software and overview that makes advanced research infrastructure like QC systems more accessible to researchers who are expects in their research field but not necessarily QC super users. This also include developing overview as how to get practical access.
  • Collaborating with researchers and other actors to understand their computational needs and provide expert advice on leveraging QC systems effectively to reach their research goals.
  • Assisting researchers in porting, optimizing, and parallelizing their applications for QC environments, offering guidance on software development, debugging, and profiling as needed.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation, tutorials, and knowledge base articles to facilitate self-service access to QC systems and promote knowledge sharing within the research communities.
  • Collaborating with researchers and other actors on interdisciplinary projects, providing technical expertise and support to enable the seamless integration of QC systems with other research infrastructure. Especially concerning the integration with (HPC) and data repositories.
  • Taking part in national and international projects with the overall goal of enabling researchers to do more and better research using QC.
  • Coordinate and develop the QC setup in DeiC with collaboration of the stakeholders in Denmark.

The QC department has a close collaboration with the HPC and Data Management Departments within DeiC ensuring consistency in our solutions for processing research data according to best practices on HPC and quantum computers.

Our expectations of you
We expect a minimum of a master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Computational Science, electrical engineering, computational physics, computational chemistry, applied mathematics, or a related field.

We greatly appreciate people that: 

  • Can make practical project plans and strategy for the above-mentioned tasks and be the driving factor of implementing it.
  • Can provide technical support and consultancy services to researchers in an academic or research environment as well as industry and public administration.
  • Have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues related to HPC and QC systems and applications.
  • Have good communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences and foster collaborative relationships with researchers.
  • Can collaborate with an open mind with colleagues from all over Europe and make sure that DeiCs values and goals are at the forefront of what you do.
  • Can communicate professionally in English. Being able to speak Danish is not a must, but you must be willing to learn Danish to integrate fully into DeiC.
  • Can navigate in the shifting needs and different assignment, both the trivial and exiting, that will arrive in this changing technological field.

Besides that, we are looking for people that have experience or knowledge with one or more of the following topics:

  • Proficiency in parallel programming languages (e.g., MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, HIP) and familiarity with HPC software ecosystems and libraries and long with QC software stacks and programming models.
  • Programming in C, C++, Fortran, Python, or other programming languages used in QC.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (Azure/AWS/Google) and containerization technologies (Docker/Kubernetes/Singularity/Apptainer) and integration with these platforms.
  • Experience with and research data management practices in computational experiments.
  • Experience with source code version control (Git/GitHub), automated testing (CI/CD), and DevOps practices.
  • System development in relation to help building research e-infrastructure systems or other systems to enable users to take advantage of QC systems.
