About the position

The Department of Data Science at Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), within the Faculty of Science and Technology(REALTEK), invites applications for a PhD position in Applied Causal Machine Learning. The position is affiliated with aiD, one of Norway’s national AI research centers focused on trustworthy, data-driven AI systems for critical industries.

The PhD position is for a period of 3 years, with a desired start date of 1st of October 2026.

aiD is a national flagship AI centre established to develop AI systems that humans can audit, understand, and trust. The centre works with applications in domains such as energy systems, health and medicine, logistics, infrastructure, and industrial operations.

The PhD project will focus on the intersection of machine learning, causal inference, and classical statistical methods. A central objective is to develop methods that move beyond correlation-based prediction toward causal reasoning, intervention-aware modelling, and interpretable AI systems. This transition from correlation to causation is considered a key challenge for trustworthy AI, particularly in settings where models support actions, interventions, and high-stakes decision-making.

The candidate will work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment with opportunities for collaboration across academia and industry partners nationally and internationally

Main tasks

• Pursue and complete doctoral training leading to the award of a PhD degree.
• Undertake innovative and rigorous research on causal machine learning.
• Disseminate research outcomes through scholarly publications and public engagement activities.
• Collaborate with researchers and practitioners through the aiD network and related national initiatives.
• Contribute to the scientific development and collaborative activities of the Data Science research group.
• Participate in international research collaborations, conferences, and academic exchange opportunities.

The successful candidate is expected to enter a plan for the progress of the work towards a PhD degree during the first months of the appointment, with a view to completing a doctorate within the PhD contract period

Competence

Required qualifications
 

• A Master's degree or equivalent in in statistics, machine learning, computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, cybernetics, economics, data science, or a related field. Foreign degrees must correspond with the admission criteria for the PhD program.
• In the Master’s degree, both the average grade point and grade on the Master’s thesis must be B or better in the Norwegian educational system. Applicants who have recently graduated with excellent results may be given preference.
• Proficiency in both written and oral English in correspondence with the admission criteria for the PhD program.
• Solid mathematics, including multi-dimensional calculus, linear algebra, probability theory, (Bayesian) statistics, optimization and elementary graph theory
• Familiar with machine learning and deep learning
• Programming experience (Python or Julia) and their ecosystems (numpy, scipy, matplotlib)
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills
• Personal suitability and motivation for the position.
   

Qualifications considered an advantage
 

• Experience with research on causality
• Experience with advanced Bayesian statistics, optimization or graph theory
• Experience with modern DeepLearning
• Domain knowledge in one or more application field of aiD

Remuneration and further information

Salary in position as PhD Research Fellow, position code 1017, 550 800 NOK. For exceptionally well qualified candidates a higher salary may be considered.

About the position

At the Department of Animal and Aquacultural Sciences, Faculty of Biosciences, there is a vacancy for a 100% permanent position as Associate Professor or Professor. We are seeking a dedicated researcher in ruminant metabolism and feed evaluation to strengthen our dynamic and internationally oriented team. The position includes responsibilities in teaching as well as basic and applied research. Familiarity with grass-based ruminant production systems is essential. Knowledge of Norwegian/Nordic agriculture and/or rumen microbiome science will be considered an advantage.

We expect you to contribute to strengthening the international profile of the Ruminant Nutrition and Physiology group at NMBU. You must demonstrate strong collaborative skills and the ability to develop, and lead research projects. The role requires the ability to secure competitive external funding and to collaborate with industry, academia, relevant public authorities, and organizations.

You are expected to supervise PhD, master’s, and bachelor’s students, and contribute to teaching at both bachelor’s and master’s levels. Etsimme pääsuunnittelijaa sähköasemasuunnitteluun Haluatko olla mukana suunnittelemassa ja toteuttamassa sähköverkkojen tulevaisuutta? Etsimme kokenutta pääsuunnittelijaa vahvistamaan sähköasematiimiämme vastaamaan kasvavaan kysyntään ja johtamaan vaativia sähköasemaprojekteja eri puolilla Suomea. Tässä roolissa pääset yhdistämään teknisen asiantuntemuksesi, suunnittelutyön, projektien koordinoinnin sekä yhteistyön asiakkaiden ja suunnittelutiimien kanssa. Vastaat sähköasemaprojektien suunnittelukokonaisuudesta ja varmistat, että eri suunnittelualat muodostavat toimivan, turvallisen ja asiakkaan tarpeita vastaavan kokonaisuuden. Mitä työ sisältää? Pääsuunnittelijana toimit sähköasemaprojektien teknisenä vastuuhenkilönä ja projektin suunnittelutiimin vetäjänä. Huolehdit suunnittelun etenemisestä aikataulussa, koordinoit eri osa-alueiden suunnittelua ja varmistat, että ratkaisut täyttävät asiakkaan vaatimukset sekä alan standardit. En tant que soigneur animalier pour principalement le secteur grands chiens, vous veillez au bien-être des animaux, à l'entretien des locaux occupés par ceux-ci et au nourrissage. Vous apportez occasionnellement un support aux autres secteurs (nacs - ovins - caprins) en fonction de la charge de travail. 

QUE DEVEZ-VOUS FAIRE ?

• Vous êtes responsable des animaux de votre secteur et connaissez leur fiche signalétique (nom, état de santé, soins particuliers,...);
• Vous nettoyez les enclos et locaux des animaux ;
• Vous participez au rangement des lieux de stockage ainsi qu'à leur entretien ;
• Vous nettoyez le matériel et veillez à l'utiliser correctement ;
• Vous participez à la préparation et à la distribution des repas ;
• Vous veillez au bien-être des animaux : interactions, jeux, brossage ;
• Vous observez les animaux : leur état de santé, leur comportement et vous en informez le vétérinaire, le responsable et vos collègues ;
• Vous assistez le vétérinaire (lors de manipulations, de soins de base, d'opérations) ;
• Vous accueillez les visiteurs, les accompagnez lors de la rencontre avec l'animal et vous faites respecter les règles ;
• Vous participez aux événements de l'Association ;
• Vous vous impliquez activement en accord avec votre responsable pour soutenir la bonne conduite du centre sur le long-terme.

• Vous disposez d'une formation qualifiante dans le secteur animalier (formation en tant que soigneur animalier, ASV,..) ; 
• Vous êtes à l'aise avec les différentes espèces du refuge (chiens, chats, rongeurs, moutons) ; 
• Vous avez une expérience de plusieurs années dans la manipulation des chiens de grandes tailles en refuge ;
• Vous avez une formation en éducation canine ou en comportement canin ;
• Une expérience avec des chiens avec des problèmes de comportements (réactivité, anxiété, agressivité) est un plus ;
• Vous êtes passionné par les animaux ;
• Vous êtes une personne sérieuse et disponible, tant pour vos collègues que pour les visiteurs ;
• Vous êtes rigoureux dans votre travail et respectez les règles de sécurité et d'hygiène ;
• Vous êtes polyvalent et vous adaptez aux différents secteurs du refuge en fonction des besoins ;
• Vous avez une bonne résistance physique et émotionnelle ; vous êtes capable de travailler dans un environnement particulier (odeurs, bruits,...).
• Vous ne présentez pas d'allergie particulière (animaux, produits d'entretien) ;
• Une connaissance du néerlandais est un plus. 

• Un contrat à durée déterminée de 6 mois (prolongation possible).
• Un contrat à temps plein (38H/semaine) réparti sur 5 jours avec des prestations durant les weekends (2 à 3 weekends par mois).

* pārzināt , kontrolēt un izpildīt kravas iekraušanas un izkraušanas darbus, saskaņā ar Darba devēja dotajiem uzdevumiem un rīkojumiem. 

* piedalīties Darbinieka profesionālās apmācībās.

* rūpēties par Darba devēja uzņēmuma prestižu. 

* pildīt citus darba devēja dotos uzdevumus, saskaņā ar noslēgto darba līgumu.

Prasības: 

* Svešvalodu zināšanas, vismaz vienas Eiropas Savienības oficiālās valodas zināšanas profesionālajai darbībai nepieciešamajā apjomā (angļu valoda-A 2 līmenis, komunikācijai ar ES sadarbības partneriem). 

* Darbinieks tiks nosūtīts darbam ES dalībvalstīs, darba braucieni līdz 3 mēnešiem.

* Iepriekšēja darba pieredze starptautiskajos kravu pārvadājumos tiks uzskatīta par priekšrocību.

* Nepieciešamas autovadītāja apliecības (C , CE, ADR, 95.kods).

* Vispārējā vidējā izglītība.
