Postdoctoral researcher in Computer Science: Neuro-inspired Computing

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher in Computer Science for a fixed-term position at the School of Science and Technology.
Subject area
The subject area for this position is Computer Science with a focus on Neuro-inspired Computing.
Background
A postdoctoral researcher will be affiliated with the Department of Computer Science within the School of Science and Technology and will carry on research within neuro-inspired computing and neuromorphic engineering. The specific areas of interest are hyperdimensional computing, vector symbolic architectures, reservoir computing, and associative memories. A key research direction will be the exploration of high-dimensional vector representations for building future intelligent systems. Particular emphasis will be placed on hardware realization including but not limited to emerging computing hardware such as neuromorphic chips and in-memory computing devices. The project supporting this position aims at expanding the algorithmic capabilities of intelligent systems, reducing their computational costs, and bridging the gap between hardware and algorithm design.
Duties and responsibilities
The appointment as a postdoctoral researcher is intended to enable persons who have recently been awarded their doctoral degree to consolidate and develop primarily their research skills. Besides consolidating their research and publication track, the postdocs may be required to contribute to the departmental duties (e.g., via teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level), up to 20 % of their time.
Qualifications
Those qualified for appointment as a postdoctoral researcher are applicants who at the time of appointment hold a doctoral degree or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree. Applicants with doctoral degrees that have been awarded no more than 3 years prior to the application deadline are to be considered first. The applicant may not previously have held a position as a postdoctoral researcher for more than one year in the same subject and at the same higher education institution. The position is for a term of at least 2 years initially but may be extended for a further 1 year.
Assessment criteria
A basis for the assessment is the applicant’s ability to disseminate information and communicate; collaborate and engage with the wider community; and facilitate utilisation of the university’s research. In addition, the applicant’s suitability for the position will be assessed. Doctoral student in Computer Science: Secure Distributed AI

The multi-disciplinary centre for cyber resilient AI, RESIST, is a national effort funded by the Swedish Strategic Research Foundation (SSF) to bring together leading researchers in AI and cybersecurity to develop novel solutions to cyber resilient AI for the benefit of Swedish industry and society. The vision is to make Sweden a role model in secure trustworthy AI by pioneering cyber resilience across the AI lifecycle. The research program focuses on four key themes: Trustworthy and Verifiable AI, Runtime Security Assurance, Robust and Secure AI-Supported Development, and Resilient Distributed and Agentic AI. RESIST will drive world-class research in the intersection between AI and cybersecurity through a strong, stimulating and well connected international research environment. Research outcomes will be validated in realworld scenarios with industry and public-sector partners. RESIST will also serve as a national hub for cyber resilient AI, promoting education, knowledge sharing, and policy development.
This PhD position is associated with the research theme Resilient Distributed and Agentic AI.
For systems with multiple agents, not only must the internal learning and reasoning of each agent function effectively, but the interactions between agents, as well as between agents and their environment, must also be safeguarded. That means it must be protected against malicious manipulation, unintended information leakage, protocol deviations, and unsafe or non-compliant behaviors that may compromise system integrity, safety, or performance. In this project, the research done by the PhD student will address the interaction layer in a multi-agent systems. It will focus on how to secure interactions can be generated based on emerging and pre-defined protocols for interaction between agents, between agents and their environment and between agents and humans. By an interaction protocol, we mean a formally specified set of rules that governs the permissible sequences of messages, actions, roles, and state transitions between agents and other entities, defining how information is exchanged, commitments are established, and coordinated behavior is achieved under given constraints. Such rules can be learned through observation of agent interactions, inferred from demonstrations and historical execution traces, or explicitly encoded from domain knowledge. The expected outcome of this thesis is a framework for testing agent interactions based on formal interaction specifications. Protocol robustness will be strengthened through execution guards generated both from protocol specifications and from observations of agent activity, evaluated in sandboxed environments as well as in real operational contexts. The research is tightly integrated with other research themes within the centre.
Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by Professor Amy Loutfi (primary) and Professor Franziska Klügl (secondary).

Job description
The STC Research Centre at Mid Sweden University is looking for a postdoctoral researcher within Autonomous Sensor Systems.
The research will focus on applying machine learning approaches in resource-constrained sensor systems, such as low-power IoT nodes and UAVs. Key objectives include the development of lightweight and potentially energy-aware ML models, the optimization and compression of these models for deployment on resource-constrained systems, and the evaluation of ML-based methods in applied sensing and measurement scenarios. As such, the work is expected to include theoretical, as well as experimental components. Application scenarios are primarily focused on industrial and structural health monitoring but may be complemented with other application areas.
You will be a vital part pf the ASY research group at the STC Research Centre and be involved in ongoing research projects on the next generation of Industrial Internet of Things and Structural Health Monitoring in close collaboration with national and international partners in industry and academia. You are also expected to actively contribute to project and grant proposals, as well as the supervision of PhD and master students in the research group. Senior researchers in the group will support you in your research and career planning through active supervision.
