The division provides fibre-based board materials and corrugated packaging products and services that are designed for a wide array of applications. Our renewable high-end packaging solutions serve leading converters, brand owners and retailers – including those in e-commerce that are looking to optimise performance, drive innovation and improve their sustainability. Tasks Your main task will be to lead the legal work for the Packaging Solutions division. You will be an active business partner to the EVP Packaging Solutions, the division leadership team, and the division, and continuously work to identify and manage legal and compliance risks and opportunities. You will also act as the gatekeeper of the company reputation and long-term shareholder value; provide strategic and tactical advice regarding contract negotiation, interpretation, claims and disputes, and coordinate legal teams in Poland and Russia. This is us, your new colleagues at Powertrain Engineering - Electromobility We belong to the department of Electromobility, which is part of the Powertrain Engineering organization within Volvo Group Trucks Technology. We design and develop complete electric propulsion systems and components, such as energy storage, motor drives and charging systems with special focus on technology creation for various Volvo Group products. Our team is agile, truly customer oriented, working closely together to drive the development of new technologies. A key component within the electrified powertrain is the Energy Storage System (ESS). At our section, we are accountable for the lifecycle management of the ESS, from advanced engineering and research to product development, maintenance, second life, and recycling. Main Role and Responsibilities Batteries have complex nonlinear dynamics and need a Battery Management System (BMS) with advanced estimation and control algorithms to ensure their optimal performance and long lifetime. There is still room for optimization to reduce the total cost of ownership. Further, additional intelligence in BMS is needed to enable efficient and cost-effective applications of second-life batteries with guaranteed performance. Challenges to solve are here mainly related to battery classification, robust health prognosis, and optimal management/control. This PhD project will address these challenges by proposing novel estimation/control algorithms, models, and methods. Your major responsibility is to pursue research in line with the project, publish and present scientific articles, support the Volvo Group patent strategy, and take part in discussions for knowledge sharing. You will continuously contribute to our future technologies and products by bridging the existing knowledge gaps through your novel ideas and research results. This exciting research project will be carried out in close collaboration with the Systems and Control division at Chalmers University of Technology. The division has a well-established research group with special focus on Electromobility and BMS.
