The successful candidate will join the Gut and Host Health (GHH) research unit.


Position Focus


The role emphasises applied cell biology with particular attention to:
  • Advanced Cell-Based Models
    Development of robust 2D and 3D models, including organoids, to investigate complex physiological and immunological mechanisms relevant to animal health and sustainable food production.
  • Cellular Agriculture
    Exploration of sustainable production of animal-derived components using cultured cells, with a focus on milk component synthesis and functional characterisation.
  • Bioactive Component Research
    Screening and characterisation of bioactive compounds such as functional additives, antimicrobial alternatives, and pharmacological agents, using cell-based models and advanced analytical approaches.
  • Integration of the 3R Principles
    Development and validation of in vitro models to reduce reliance on animal experiments, supporting ethical and sustainable research practices, particularly in the context of nutrition, disease, and animal production.



Responsibilities


  • Research within the focus areas mentioned above.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in veterinary and animal sciences.
  • Supervise BSc, MSc, and PhD students.
  • Contribute to competitive research proposals.
  • Provide research-based consultancy to authorities when required.



Qualifications


Applicants must meet the requirements for Assistant Professor level at Aarhus University, including:

  • PhD in animal science, veterinary medicine, or a related field.
  • Postdoctoral training or equivalent experience with a research profile and publication record in the relevant area.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent research and analyse experimental data.
  • Experience in teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • For non-Scandinavian candidates: willingness to learn Danish (reading, writing, speaking). Teaching experience in Danish is an advantage.

Position as Computational Analyst / Bioinformatician in RNA Therapeutics and Cardiometabolic Disease

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Computational Analyst / Bioinformatician / Staff Scientist (AC-TAP) to be a cornerstone and formative member of a new groundbreaking initiative at the University of Southern Denmark focussing on RNA therapeutics in cardiometabolic diseases (CMD).

This is a unique opportunity to lead a critical project at the intersection of (micro)RNA biology, 3D human model systems, nanomedicine, and computational (ML) disease modelling. You will be able to contribute to our vision to translate basic findings into medicinal RNA approaches to improve the lives of people suffering from cardiometabolic disease by discovering RNA-based targets from in-house and public genetic / transcriptomic datasets.

This two-year position (with the wish and possibility of extension for additional three years) is ideal for a scientist with computational expertise applied to genomics and metabolism that also has a passion of alleviating disease burden and who thrives by enabling biomedical researchers, developing pipelines for identification of (micro)RNA-based targets for therapeutic intervention, and mentoring students.

Our Vision: 

To pioneer RNA-based platforms to achieve gain-of-function in extrahepatic organs like adipose tissue and vascular cell types with the aim of alleviating cardiometabolic disease burden in human patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Benchmarking existing and developing novel computational approaches for inference of microRNA activities from single-cell/nucleus and spatial omics (NGS, MassSpec).

  • Interrogation of GWAS data for identifying protective human gain-of-function gene variants.

  • Supporting the group with (sc/sp) RNA-seq analysis and multi omics integration.

  • Assist with implementation of paralleled microRNA/mRNA single-cell seq like PSCSR-seq.

  • Training PhD students and post-docs to analyze large-scale datasets and interpreting results.

  • Provide input to projects in our group and help with illustrating complex biological datasets. 

Your Profile:

  • Documented expertise in computational biology, NGS data analysis, processing of experimental datasets of murine and human origin, network analysis and investigation of multi-omics datasets.

  • Proficiency in at least two of the following programming languages: Python, R.

  • Experience in Machine Learning and Computational RNA Biology are desirable.

  • Hands-on experience or understanding (the limitations) of wet lab (NGS) workflows is a plus.

  • Passion for complex data visualization and representing data into interpretable figures.

  • Several years of productive postdoctoral or PhD experience from industry, academic or core facility as evidenced by high-impact 1st author publications, patents or conference proceedings.

  • Satisfaction in training academic researchers and helping them succeed in their projects. 

  • A strong collaborator with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent communicator (written and verbal) with a passion for translating basic findings into RNA-based approaches to alleviate cardiometabolic disease burden.

Postdoc position in Data-Driven Turbulence Modeling

The Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering (MPE) at Aarhus University invites applications for a postdoc position offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join the “Fluid Mechanics and Turbulence” group and conduct research on data-driven techniques for turbulence modeling in LES and RANS. The initial contract will be for one year, with the possibility of an additional one-year extension.

The project is fully funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF). The main objective of this project is to develop physics-constrained, data-driven turbulence models for numerical simulations of turbulent flows. Data from DNS, wall-resolved LES, and experiments will be used to train and validate models applicable to wall-modeled LES and RANS. From an application perspective, the developed models will be deployed in realistic scenarios, including turbulent flows over complex terrain, within built environments, and in wind farms. The project integrates fundamental applied mathematics with practical CFD applications.

You will be a member of the “Fluid Mechanics and Turbulence” research group at the Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering (MPE).  The research group specializes in the modeling and simulation of turbulent flows and transport phenomena, with a particular emphasis on applications in energy systems. Job description

Research in this project involves a synergistic combination of numerical modeling and theoretical development of physics-based and physics-constrained machine-learning (ML) models in simulations of turbulent flows. You are expected to contribute to research and development in data-driven methodologies for turbulence modeling in LES (i.e., wall and SGS modeling) and RANS. This includes proposals of new methodologies, implementation and validation of the methods using the simulation and experimental data, reporting of the results, and dissemination in international conferences and journals.


Your profile


The ideal applicant should possess a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. It is anticipated that applicants will bring substantial knowledge and research experience in areas such as computational fluid dynamics, turbulence modeling, data-driven methodologies, machine learning, and parallel computing. The candidate should also be able to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team. Proficient skills in English communication, including speaking and writing, are essential.

We are offering a Postdoctoral research position in district heating modelling and optimisation, with particular focus on:
  • Graph-based, data-driven modelling of district heating networks.
  • Data analysis and modelling of waste-heat sources and demand profiles.
  • Spatio-temporal optimisation of waste-heat sources and supporting energy technologies integration.
  • Cross-domain collaboration with computer science.
This position is part of an interdisciplinary project, where research tasks will be carried out in collaboration with the research group of Davide Mottin, at the Department of Computer Science, and Kredsløb, Aarhus’s district heating company.


Your profile


The ideal candidate has:

Job description

The position is within the area of carbon cycle science with special emphasis on high-latitude ecosystem modeling. Central to the position is solid experience with long-term in situ and remote sensing data analysis coupled with ecosystem modelling approaches (for instance, greenhouse gas fluxes and energy, water, and nutrient exchange data). Key focus will be on developing ecosystem models for high-latitude ecosystems and to scale-up these spatially as well as temporally using state-of-the-art ecosystem models.
 

Your profile

The successful applicant must have obtained a PhD degree in the field of biogeochemistry, physical geography, climate science, ecosystem ecology, or related disciplines. The candidate is expected to have several years of experience as a postdoc and researcher working with terrestrial ecosystem modelling. The candidate must have a quantitative mindset, able to digest large datasets, and explore non-linear causality and feedback loops. Familiarity with advanced statistical and modelling tools (e.g., process-based models like LPJ-GUESS or ORCHIDEE and data assimilation frameworks such as CARDAMOM) is considered highly positive. Experience with fieldwork in the Arctic is an asset, but not a requirement. Good team-working ability as well as writing skills are essential.

Postdoc in muskox energetics and population modelling

The position is ideally suited for candidates with interests in Arctic ecology, movement ecology, population dynamics, and ecological modelling.

As part of the position, you will be:
  • co-developing a spatially explicit process-based ecological model (DEB-IBM) for muskoxen in the high-Arctic through the analyses of long-term GPS and acceleration data.
  • using the model to estimate the (cumulative) impacts of hunting, climate and habitat change on movement and population dynamics of muskoxen.
