European Digital Credentials for Learning

The European Digital Credentials for Learning (EDC) infrastructure is a set of freely available services and software to support the issuance of authentic, tamper-evident digital credentials (whether diplomas, micro-credentials, certificates of participation or other) across Europe.

A European Digital Credential for Learning (EDC) is a verifiable, digital version of a credential issued by an organisation to a learner to document their learning. These include diplomas, training certificates, micro-credentials, certificates of participation, and more. They can be issued in all EU and Europass languages and are signed with an electronic seal (a form of digital signature belonging to a trusted institution or organisation).

Digitalising the Diploma Supplement: a new step in aiding recognition

Moving between countries while seeking new learning or work opportunities can be challenging due to differences in document formats, languages, definitions of applied terminology and assessment methods. Qualifications obtained in one country are not always easily recognised in another. To address this, the use of common standards plays a crucial role.

The European Commission, the European Parliament and stakeholders from all EU Member States are working together as a team to promote skills development from May 2022 until May 2023.
