About the position

Integreat – the Norwegian Centre for Knowledge-driven Machine Learning at the University of Oslo invites applications for a doctoral research fellowship in Machine Learning and Statistics. We welcome applicants early in their research careers,who are eager to contribute to impactful methods for generating private and fair synthetic data with good utility.

We are particularly interested in applicants motivated to develop machine learning methods that matter for society — including fairness, privacy, ethical responsibility, and responsible use of data — and who want to grow as researchers in a supportive and interdisciplinary environment.

Starting date upon individual agreement and no later than 1 October.

The fellowship period is three years. A fourth year may be considered and it will involve 25 % of other career-promoting work. Other career-promoting work may consist of teaching, supervision, and/or research assistance. This is dependent upon the qualification of the applicant and the current needs of the department.

Applicants may hold a PhD Research Fellowship at the University of Oslo for one fellowship period only.

Job description

We welcome applicants with solid background in machine learning and statistics, and who are eager to contribute to impactful methods for generating private and fair synthetic data with good utility. This project involves development of deep learning based synthetic data generators that obtain both good utility and protection of privacy, through tailored model approximation, as well as new measures of privacy and fairness to be used for assessing properties of synthetic generators, or in loss functions for training them. Further, the potentials and limitations of the developed approaches should be critically assessed regarding their implications for fairness, privacy, and utility. This project is at the intersection of machine learning, statistics and ethics.

This position is affiliated with the research group research group in Statistics and Data Science at the Department of Mathematics , in close collaboration with the machine learning group at the Department of Informatics, both at University of Oslo.

What skills are important in this role? 

Qualification requirements:

Candidates are expected to have solid academic background and demonstrate the ability and motivation to develop into independent researchers, and must document:

• Master’s degree or equivalent in computer science, statistics, data science, mathematics, or related field
• Foreign completed degree (M.Sc.-level) corresponding to a minimum of four years in the Norwegian educational system
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
• Programming skills 
• Interest in considering and discussing ethical aspects of the research project

Candidates without a master’s degree have until 30 June 2026 to complete the final exam.

Desired qualifications:

The project concerns development of synthetic data generators with deep learning models, therefore experience with such models is an advantage.

About the position 

The Institute for Health and Society is recruiting 1 Postdoctoral Fellow (SKO 1352) with a PhD in either social science or the humanities, to a project on plastics in healthcare. In this postdoc position, you will join an interdisciplinary and multinational team of researchers in the Wellcome Trust-funded Discovery Grant project 'After the Single Use: Rethinking Medical Devices for Reuse, Resilience and Renewal'. This is a five-year anthropological and historical research project examining the history, circulation, and discard of single-use plastics in global healthcare, with the aim of understanding how and why we came to naturalise and normalize disposability in healthcare and exploring ways to collaborate to reduce it. The project involves research teams in 8 different countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the US. This postdoc position will be part of the Norwegian team, and focus on healthcare plastics and waste in Sámi indigenous territories.

The appointment is a full-time position for a period of three years. 

We invite the applicants to submit a detailed project proposal within these frames, which will be further developed in collaboration with the Norwegian project lead. The research will be carried out in close collaboration with the international research team partners, including the NGO Health Care without Harm and the Norwegian Bioart Arena. The Postdoc will also contribute to other project-related tasks and activities.

We are seeking a candidate with a PhD in the social sciences or humanities with experience in engaged research connected to health or medicine, and preferably with demonstrated knowledge of, or experience working within, Sámi culture and contexts and/or civil society organizations. 

More about the position

The postdoctoral research fellow will be employed by the Institute of Health and Society (Helsam) at the University of Oslo. Academic staff are formally employed by the Institute but have their primary workplace and disciplinary home within one of its departments. The Postdoctoral fellow will be based at the Section for Medical Humanities, one of three sections in the Department of Community Medicine and Global Health. The department is a dynamic, internationally oriented environment that brings together researchers from medicine, the social sciences, and the humanities. Its research spans global health, medical anthropology, epidemiology, and medical history, fostering a collegial and creative academic culture. In the Section for Medical Humanities, anthropologists and historians work together to investigate the cultural, historical, and social dimensions of health and medicine — from everyday experiences of illness to the ways medical knowledge, technologies, and policies shape societies. 
 

A career plan shall be developed for the Postdoctoral Fellow, specifying the competencies the Postdoctoral Fellow should acquire. UiO is responsible for following up on the career plan and ensuring that the Postdoctoral Fellow has access to career guidance throughout the postdoctoral term.

The duration of appointment is 3 years. Other career-promoting work will consist of 10 % which is devoted to required duties

Responsibilities

• Develop a case study on primary healthcare in the Arctic, including: research design, development of methods, writing of protocol and application for ethics. Ongoing refinement of research design and implementation
• Conduct primary and secondary research - historical and ethnographic- on community-based experiences, knowledge and advocacy related to healthcare plastics and healthcare waste, including: stakeholder mapping, grey literature reviews, archive research, ethnographic research, photovoice and interviews. This includes fieldwork in the Arctic
• Independently prepare and write academic publications related to the case study (e.g., one monograph and two articles) and contribute to co-authorship of wider project publications and other outputs (e.g., blog posts, executive summaries, policy briefings, podcasts, etc.)
• Present research publications at academic and policy conferences and meetings
• Work closely with the Norwegian Co-PI and the Norwegian Bioart Arena NOBA to develop and implement the art engagement of the overall project
• Work closely with the Norwegian Co-PI on the Norwegian part of the project’s communications and stakeholder engagement plan, knowledge exchange and impact activities, and events related to governance of plastics in health care in Norway
• Contribute to the overall project activities (organising events, producing website content, data management and storage, etc.), including international travel for project meetings and events

Essential qualifications

In this role you must:

• Hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree (PhD) in social science or the humanities or a closely related discipline. A Phd in the health or medical sciences with demonstrated qualification in the social sciences and/or the humanities can be accepted
• For applicants who have yet to receive their PhD degree, the doctoral dissertation must have been submitted for evaluation
• Good written and oral proficiency in English
• Good organizational and administrative skills, including time management
• Demonstrated excellent academic writing skills
• Have prior experience either with ethnographic fieldwork and/or archival work

Other qualifications:

In addition, it would be an advantage (but not a requirement) if you:

• Have documented Sámi cultural competence (a necessity if you will develop a project involving collaboration with Sámi people)
• Have a fit and complementarity with the project’s theoretical and methodological approach
• Have knowledge of the social science and/ or history of plastics, infrastructure, and health systems
• Have knowledge of sustainability in the health sector in Norway
• Have experience working interdisciplinary and across cultures and regions

Senter for psykisk helse og rusbehandling Tromsø er en del av Universitetssykehuset Nord-Norge HF, Avdeling nord i Psykisk helse- og rusklinikken. Senteret har allmennpsykiatrisk lokalsykehus-/DPS-ansvar for Tromsø, Storfjord, Balsfjord, Lyngen og Karlsøy.

Virksomheten består av tre seksjoner: 

• Poliklinisk seksjon
• Døgn 3 – Recoveryenhet
• Døgnseksjon
  

Døgnseksjonen består av:

• Døgn 2, Tromsø – 12 plasser
• Døgn Storsteinnes – 9 plasser
  

Døgn 1 tilbyr både akutte og elektive innleggelser. Behandlingen omfatter

• kartlegging og utredning
• medikamentell behandling
• samtalebehandling
• miljøterapi
• fysisk aktivitet og gruppetilbud
• nettverksarbeid

• Vi har nå ledig vikariat som fysioterapeut og folkehelsekoordinator, med ønsket oppstart så raskt som mulig. Varighet til 31.12.26, med mulighet for forlengelse. Vikariatet er en fysioterapistilling med folkehelseoppgaver, men en todeling av oppgaver kan vurderes. Oppgi derfor i søknaden om du søker på fysioterapistilling og/eller folkehelsekoordinator.
• I tillegg har vi ledig 100% fast stilling som ergoterapeut, med ønsket oppstart i mai.

Beskrivelse av arbeidssted

Fysio- og ergoterapitjenesten består av 1 ergoterapeut, 1 hjelpemiddeltekniker og 2 fysioterapeuter. I tillegg har kommunen 2 avtalefysioterapeuter. Tjenesten er organisert under avdeling Helse og familie, som også omfatter legetjenesten, helsestasjon- og skolehelsetjenesten samt psykisk helse og rus. Vi holder til på Rennebu helsesenter, samlokalisert med sykehjem, hjemmetjeneste og forvaltningskontor.

Hovedarbeidsområder

• Mottak og prioritering av henvendelser til tjenesten.
• Kartlegging og tilrettelegging
• Utøve tjenester til voksne/eldre hjemmeboende, til personer på institusjon og i døgnbemannet bolig, samt til barn og unge.
• Hverdagsrehabilitering.
• Bidra til helsefremmende og forebyggende arbeid.
• Tett samarbeid med fysioterapeut/ergoterapeut og øvrige faggrupper

Rennebu kommune er en trivelig innlandskommune som ligger i Trøndelag, 8 mil sør for Trondheim. Kommunesenteret Berkåk ligger ved elva Orkla, E6 og Dovrebanen. Vi har gode oppvekstvilkår med utviklingsorienterte barnehager og skoler, flotte boområder, god eldreomsorg og mange muligheter for etablering av arbeidsplasser. Det lyses ut 100 % ledig 6 måneders vikariat for LIS, med mulighet for forlengelse. 

Sykehuset Østfold Kalnes er akuttsykehus for drøyt 300 000 innbyggere i Østfold + Vestby kommune. På Kalnes er det 8-9 operasjonsstuer i daglig drift. Det meste av ø-hjelp og større operasjoner innen gastrokirurgi, karkirurgi og urologi gjøres på Kalnes. Vi har tett samarbeid med barneavdelingen i gjennomføring av utpost anestesi (MR og endoskopier). Sykehuset har egen barnekirurg. Høsten 2020 ble robotkirurgi innført på Kalnes. I Moss har vi bl.a. dagkirurgi, bariatrisk kirurgi, ortopedisk protesekirurgi (kne og hofte), urologisk kirurgi, ØNH, gynekologi og gastrokirurgi. Disse enhetene utfører årlig tilsammen ca. 18 000 anestesier innen de fleste spesialiteter. Vi behandler ca. 500 intensivpasienter og har 1200-1600 respiratordøgn årlig. SØ har ca. 3000 fødsler per år. 

Avdelingen har 32 årsverk for overleger og 12 LIS. Intensivvakt deltar i sekundærtransport til høyere omsorgsnivå.

Avdelingen drifter sykehusets smerteseksjon med fokus på tverrfaglig smertepoliklinikk. Avdelingen har økende forskningsaktivitet. Vi har en overlege og en LIS med PhD og to overleger i pågående forskningsstipendiat (PhD).

Arbeidssted er Sykehuset Østfold med rotasjon mellom enhetene på Kalnes og Moss. LIS inngår i 10-delt vaktordning med tilstedevakt på Kalnes.
