Third country nationals and Europass

Europass is a useful platform for anyone interested in learning or working in Europe, whether you are an EU citizen or you come from a non-EU country (third country nationals). Europass also presents useful information on learning and employment opportunities in Europe.

EU Skills Profile Tool for Third Country Nationals

The EU Skills Profile Tool can be used by support services like reception centres or public employment services to map skills, work experiences and qualifications of refugees, migrants and of non-EU citizens who are staying or planning to stay in the EU. This tool helps relevant services to provide better guidance and support to individuals with their job search or steps to education and training.

EU Immigration Portal

You can find helpful information about coming to work or study in the EU for more than 90 days and on how to join your family in the EU. If you are already in the EU, you can also find information on what rules apply to you, if you:

  • are a non-EU citizen already living in an EU country and you would like your family to join you,
  • want to become a long-term resident,  or
  • are interested to move from one EU country to another

Recognition of skills and qualifications

If you are moving for work or study to an EU country, you need to present your skills and qualifications in an understandable manner. Europass provides helpful information about what to do to have your diplomas and certificates recognized. Select the country you are interested to work or live in and find tailored information on where to get your diplomas recognized in that specific country.

Validation of non-formal and informal learning

Skills developed through non-formal and informal learning can be a valuable asset, especially for third country nationals travelling without diplomas. Validation of non-formal and informal learning gives visibility and value to skills acquired outside the formal domain. Get more information on how the EU supports validation, how it works and where you can go to have informal learning validated.

Point to note

For some groups of Third Country Nationals, access to education or the labour market is subject to EU or national legislation of the country of residence or destination – for more information see the Immigration portal of the EU.
