At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, a position as Postdoc in AI-augmented process control, is open for appointment from 01 July 2026 or soon hereafter. The duration of the position is two years.
Your work tasks
The main task of this postdoc position will dedicate on research and development of advanced process control augmented by some AI techniques, e.g., using reinforcement learning, for offshore industrial produced water treatment processes. The developed methods/solutions should be tested and demonstrated on a globally leading pilot-plant sited at Aalborg University. There are also potentials to be tested at relevant industrial partners’ installations at the late stage of the project. This position is fully supported by a new EUDP project named ARROiW – Advanced Recording for Reduction of Oil-in-Water, which aims to develop advanced online oil-in-water sensing and control technologies applicable for offshore industrial processes. The ARROiW project involves academic partners as Aalborg University, Technical University of Denmark and Copenhagen University, as well as relevant industrial partners.
The position is offered in relation to the research group "Fluid & Process" and the Postdoc will be
positioned to the Esbjerg Section. Research areas will be within Advanced Process Monitoring and Control.
Your competencies
The candidate should have a PhD degree in control or automation or relevant. Some experiences in AI-enhanced/augmented/integrated process control development gives high priority. The project also involves some activities in pilot-plant testing and potentially on-site industrial testing, thereby the candidate should be aware that some experimental validation work is also needed, but a pre-knowledge of the concerned offshore industrial processes is not requested.
The applicant must have a relevant professional and/or educational background within control
engineering/process control/automation or relevant.

Appointment as postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level. '

Salary and terms of employment
