About the position

A 4,5-year temporary position of university lecturer (SKO 1009) in modern and contemporary Japanese studies is available at the Department of Culture, Religion, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (IKOS), University of Oslo. The position is intended to be filled in autumn 2026 and no later than 1 December.
The Japanese studies section at the University of Oslo offers a three-year Bachelor’s and a two-year Master’s programmes. The courses have a disciplinary focus on Japanese history, religion, social anthropology, classical Japanese, modern and contemporary literature, translation studies, and popular culture.

The university lecturer will be expected to teach lectures and seminars and conduct examinations at BA level (and MA level if the appointed candidate has a Ph.D.), including introductory courses on Japanese culture and specialised courses aligned with their research expertise. They may be asked to contribute to the language program, and to take on supervision of bachelor’s and master’s theses. The person employed should have experience with teaching both content and language courses in modern and contemporary Japanese studies. 


More about the position

The vacancy is a teaching position, with 75 % teaching and dissemination work, 19 % academic development work, and 6 % administration. Within the normal duties and academic competence, the person appointed may also be directed to work outside his/her department. The appointment is made under the condition that the employer may change the subject area and assigned tasks according to the needs of the Department.


Qualifications

  • Masters’ or Ph.D. degree, or equivalent academic qualifications, with a specialization in modern and contemporary Japanese studies.
  • Documented pedagogical skills (either a teaching course certificate or based on teaching experience), see how to document your pedagogical skills
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English and Japanese
  • Proficiency in Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) at minimum B2 level. Applicants who do not document such proficiency at the time of appointment must commit to achieving B2 level in Norwegian within the employment period.
  • Personal suitability and motivation for the position

In the evaluation of the applicants, emphasis will be placed on:

  • Pedagogical qualifications and practice, mainly from universities or higher education institutions, and disposition to inspire students 
  • Experience in teaching both content and language courses in Japanese Studies
  • Professional competence and publication in the field of modern and contemporary Japanese studies
  • Good teamwork skills and experience

The successful candidate who at the time of appointment cannot document formal basic teaching qualifications will be required to obtain such qualifications within a two-year period.

Knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language will be an advantage.

Researcher with PhD in hypothermic cardiac arrest research

Join the Institute for Experimental Medical Research (IEMR), one of the internationally leading teams in translational heart research. We invite applications for a 3-year researcher position, as part of the project RE-HEAT: Prehospital Prevention and Treatment of Hypothermic Cardiac Arrest. This project examines pharmacological interventions and ECG-based risk stratification to improve prevention, treatment and prediction of hypothermia-induced cardiac arrest, using an advanced large-animal model, cell and organ models, as well as clinical data. As a researcher in our group, you will work with state-of-the-art methodologies within a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment, while contributing to research that directly informs future treatment strategies for hypothermia-induced arrhythmias. The project is financed by the Norwegian Air Ambulance Foundation and will be conducted in the Translational cardiovascular pharmacology group, led by Professor Erik Sveberg Dietrichs.

Work tasks

Qualifications

  • A keen interest in translational cardiac research and willingness to lead and perform hands-on experiments in large-animal models. Previous experience with animal research is not required, but strongly preferred. Candidates without formal training in animal handling equal to FELASA C will be required to take this course as soon as possible after employment
  • Prior experience with clinical patient studies, in vivo animal models, Langendorff preparations, cell work and/or human stem cell models will be viewed as an asset

Medical doctors with prior experience in evaluating ECG-markers or who have experience in laboratory work, particularly within translational cardiovascular or pharmacological research are encouraged to apply.

    Profile of the Centre

    The Centre for the Study of World Christianity and Religion at VID Specialized University offers up to five fully funded Ph.d. Research Fellow positions in Theology and Religion for a period of three years.

    We understand World Christianity as both the living reality of a multi-centred, plural, global church and as an integrated research approach to studying theology, religion, and their cultural and contextual expressions worldwide throughout history. World Christianity studies also focus on bottom-up approaches that emphasise the perspectives of minorities and marginalised voices. It is a subject best explored through a variety of disciplinary and interdisciplinary methods.


    About the position

    The position of Research Fellow at VID aims to attain a Ph.d. degree after completing research training. Obtaining a Ph.d. is a valuable qualification for roles both within and outside academia.

     We welcome applications in various fields of Theology and Religious Studies, however, the following research areas will be given priority:

    • Projects grounded in Sámi or Kven traditions: Constructive or practical theological projects; projects on truth & reconciliation, colonialism, and decolonisation; and projects on Sámi, Kven or Forest Finn church history 
    • History, mission and archival research: Projects that engage with VID’s historical archive to explore themes and issues related to glocal dynamics of Christian mission and/or church history, with particular attention to how these movements have shaped and been shaped by different contexts, local communities, and power structures

    PhD programme

    The successful candidates will be employed by the Centre for the Study of World Christianity and Religion (Ph.d. programme in Theology and Religion) at VID.     • The position is classified under code 1017 for a Ph.d. student in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement, with a salary of NOK 550.800 per year, and adheres to standard merit regulations. Membership in the State Pension Plan, as well as accident and group life insurance schemes, is mandatory. The salary will be updated annually in line with the collective agreement.

    Mission Le PUI Loire Valley Innov' (PUI LVI), composé de 9 fondateurs (Universités de Tours, d'Orléans, INSA CVL, CHU de Tours et d'Orléans, BRGM, CNRS, INRAE et C-VaLo) et plus de 25 partenaires, regroupe l'ensemble des forces vives de l'écosystème d'innovation du territoire régional. Il est financé par l'ANR et Bpifrance et a débuté le 1er janvier 2024 pour une durée de 4 ans. Rattaché à la Délégation Centre Limousin Poitou Charente du CNRS et au pôle Appui aux Projets, à la Recherche et à l'Innovation (APRI) de l'Université d'Orléans, le Service Partenariat et Valorisation Grand Campus (SPVGC) est un service mutualisé qui a pour mission d'accompagner les laboratoires de la région Centre Val de Loire dans la recherche de financements, la négociation de partenariats et la valorisation des résultats de recherche. Le chargé de valorisation F/H aura pour mission d'accompagner les laboratoires dans leurs démarches d'innovation. Au sein du SPVGC, le poste de Chargé de valorisation F/H est rattaché fonctionnellement à la Responsable du service et hiérarchiquement au Directeur Valorisation et Innovation du pôle APRI.
