Role Summary This role is a part of TRATON Group R&D, located in Södertälje, Sweden. Internal applicants from TRATON Group R&D are prioritized for this position. Bearing currents pose a major durability risk in electrified propulsion and transmission units. In the group EMC Solutions and eMotor testing (Domain ePropulsion and Drivetrain development) we are developing methods and models to understand and mitigate bearing current issues in our electric propulsion units. We are now looking for a curious and driven engineer to join our group as an industrial PhD student in a research project focusing on tribology for electric vehicles. The project aims to develop a physics-based design tool for predicting, understanding and ultimately mitigating bearing current-induces damages. As an industrial PhD student, you will be academically affiliated with the Division of Machine elements, Department of Engineering Sciences and Mathematics, at Luleå University of Technology (LTU) in northern Sweden, and having supervisors both LTU and Traton throughout the project. The field of machine elements generally involves the analysis and optimization of machine components and component systems based on performance, energy efficiency, reliability, and environmental impact. Within this field, tribology- the study of friction, lubrication and wear in contacts- is central, and in this project you will contribute to building fundamental knowledge in electrified tribological contacts, with a specific focus on bearing currents in electric powertrains. The project is largely experimental in nature, but will contain simulation and model development to support the understanding of underlying phenomena. You will spend most of your time at Traton R&D in Södertälje and part of your time at LTU in Luleå. Job Responsibilities Your tasks as an industrial PhD student include, but are not limited to; Plan and execute scientific investigations – on site in Södertälje and partly at LTU Perform experimental model- and component-level studies of electrified tribological contacts Develop tribological models and methods. Somatic mutation accumulation and clonal evolution are central processes in cancer development. Through large-scale whole-genome sequencing and other high-throughput approaches, these processes can be mapped in detail, providing insights into tumor initiation, progression, and treatment response. This position focuses on the application and development of bioinformatics methods for the analysis of genomic cancer data, including large public international datasets and patient-derived sequencing data. The project may involve, for example, studies of somatic mutational processes, clonal dynamics, tumor evolutionary history, or integrative analyses of genomic and clinical data. Analyses of non-cancer-related sequencing data may also be considered. The work will be carried out in a research environment with strong expertise in cancer genomics, computational biology, and translational research. Duties The postdoctoral researcher will apply and develop computational methods for the analysis of whole-genome sequencing and other NGS-based data from patients, and will design, implement, and maintain reproducible bioinformatics pipelines. The work may also include statistical analyses and data visualization to identify and interpret somatic mutational patterns and other genomic alterations, as well as integration of genomic data with clinical and phenotypic variables when relevant. The researcher is expected to contribute to manuscript writing and publication in international scientific journals and may present research findings at national and international conferences. Eligibility The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg. To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made. Job description and requirements The field of activity is preparedness and resilience. The work tasks of the position are located in University's [Public Policy and Governance](https://www.uwasa.fi/en/research/groups-and-focus-areas/public-policy-and-governance)research group and connected to the [Preparedness and Resilience Research](https://www.uwasa.fi/en/research/research-platforms/preparedness-and-resilience)Platform. The research profile focuses on key themes related to preparedness and resilience within the broad domain of public policy and governance, including, but not limited to the following topics: - The resilience of public institutions in a complex operational environment - Crisis management and governance as part of societal preparedness - Developing normative steering to enhance preparedness - Safeguarding democracy, legitimacy, and the rule of law in crises - Comprehensive security and civil preparedness - Situational awareness and intelligence research The research related to the position is also linked to the University of Vaasa's strategic focus areas of business renewal, energy transition and societal transformation. Applicants must describe in their research plan how their plan relates to the research group and the strategy of the University of Vaasa. We value experience in societal interaction in research and teaching, evidence of external funding acquisition (taking career stage into account), and diverse methodological skills. Teaching experience in the above-mentioned themes, as well as knowledge of the Finnish and Nordic preparedness systems are considered an advantage. Applicants are required to have a relevant doctoral degree and, in addition, excellent academic credentials, a proven track record of producing outstanding research, and evidence of high-quality teaching or the potential to do so. The tenure track position is research-oriented, but also includes teaching, thesis supervision, applying for external funding for research projects, university administrative tasks, and master's programme development tasks (e.g. double degrees). The teaching and supervision duties are mainly focused on the Master's Programme in Preparedness and Resilience, where teaching and supervision are provided in both Finnish and English. In addition, the applicant will participate in supervision and teaching under the university's doctoral programme where appropriate. The annual working time is 1612 hours based on the general collective agreement for Finnish universities and tasks are agreed in more detail in the Annual Work Plan.
