The Mobile Robotics Lab (MRL) at ETH Zürich pushes the limits of robot intelligence. We want to build robots that can safely explore, navigate, and interact with their environments—specifically, how learned perception can drive action in a closed loop and how we can leverage foundation models for long-term autonomy. To this end, we are looking for a capable lab technician / engineer who supports our vision with technical expertise in hardware and software development.
We investigate these questions on a number of real-world robots such as the Unitree G1 humanoid, Stretch 3, and drones. For details about the individual running projects, please refer to our website.
Design & Development: Design custom (embedded) hardware (CAD/PCB) and software solutions (Python/C/C++) to meet specific requirements for both cutting-edge research and practical aspects in taught courses
Educational Support: Provide technical mentorship for student initiatives (e.g., Focus Projects), guiding them through hardware-software integration and prototyping
Production & Integration: Assemble, integrate, and commission robotic systems; perform functional tests, calibrations, and troubleshooting
Maintenance & Support: Maintain robotic systems after field deployments and document all technical configurations and test protocols
Logistics & Procurement: Manage component procurement, supplier relations, and inventory control for the production and laboratory stock
Safety & Compliance: Serve as the safety responsible; implement laboratory regulations, conduct risk assessments, and manage safety audits/onboarding
Education: Degree or advanced vocational training in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience in assembling and maintaining complex robotic systems; solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, software, and control components
Laboratory Skills: Proficient with measurement tools, calibration procedures, and structured technical reporting
Organization: Highly structured and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic research environment
Communication: Strong sense of responsibility and the confidence to lead safety training and instruct students and researchers
Mindset: A proactive, solution-oriented "hands-on" mentality with the ability to work independently
Work on cutting edge research in collaboration with academic and industrial partners
A collaborative, multidisciplinary team bridging research theory and robotics in the real world
Modern lab facilities and flexible conditions within a leading-edge research environment
We promote diversity through flexible working hours and the possibility of part-time arrangements
