Through the German Federal ex situ Genebank for Agricultural and Horticultural Crops, IPK operates the largest genebank in the European Union and one of the largest in the world, providing plant genetic resources (PGR) to researchers and breeders. The most comprehensive information possible forms the basis for PGR users to select and access the material required for their scientific and breeding activities. For this reason, IPK has been working for some time to transform the genebank into a bio-digital resource centre. As part of the TWIN project, funded by BMFTR, plans are in place to develop a digital discovery platform for cereal genetic resources. This involves upgrading existing databases and information systems to ensure they comply with FAIR principles and can communicate with one another via APIs, and, on this basis, developing a shared search portal. These HPC clusters comprise the national supercomputer at LRZ as well as additional state-wide HPC clusters of various size. • Deploy, configure, and manage network switches, fabric management software, and host-software stacks. • Monitor fabric health, diagnose link errors, and resolve performance bottlenecks. • Run benchmarks and characterize the interconnect performance. • Tune network performance for MPI, distributed file systems, and storage traffic. • Collaborate with HPC system administrators, storage engineers, and application teams to optimize end-to-end data paths. • Evaluate and recommend new interconnect hardware and technologies. • Hunt and fix bugs, often in collaboration with vendor companies. • Maintain detailed network topology documentation.
