About the position

We are seeking a highly motivated and internationally recognized scholar to join our department as Professor or Associate Professor in Cyber Security with a focus on Cyber Physical Security. The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and education in a rapidly evolving field that is critical to society and industry. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening our research profile, fostering collaboration with national and international partners, and shaping the next generation of OT security professionals. The position will be based at the Trondheim Campus. 

The role involves a balanced portfolio of research, teaching, and academic leadership. You will be expected to develop and lead research projects, secure external funding, and publish in top-tier venues. In addition, you will contribute to the department’s educational mission by teaching and supervision.

The successful candidate is expected to conduct research in the area of Cyber Physical Security with application domains including but not limited to energy systems and maritime environments, linking to other researchers in adjacent areas in the department and across the university. In this role, you are also expected to contribute to teaching in a range of cyber security topics.

The position is sponsored by DNV as part of a university scheme.

Duties of the position

  • Initiate, participate in, and manage externally and internally funded research projects,  including in co-operation with DNV
  • Participate in and initiate research projects in co-operation with industry, government, and national as well as European funding bodies (e.g. EU, Norwegian Research Council)
  • Teaching at bachelor-, master- and PhD levels in all the study programs taught in the department
  • Teaching cyber security topics including but not limited to Cyber Physical Security
  • Supervision of bachelor, master and PhD students 
  • Administrative tasks as required

Required qualifications 

Professor:

You must have the following qualifications required for the position of professor:

  • A doctoral degree in a field within the area of cyber security or its corresponding fields such as computer science, electrical engineering and mathematics, or competence at an equivalent level documented by scientific work or artistic work of the same scope and quality
  • A research record appropriate to your academic experience, primarily demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications
  • An academic track record focused on cyber security with a clearly documented focus on Cyber Physical Security
  • Educational competence
  • Norwegian language skills at level B2
  • Significant contributions to research or artistic development work at the highest level, in accordance with international or national standards in the field

Additional requirements for professor at NTNU must be documented:

  • Quality development in own teaching and supervision over time and a high degree of reflection on own practice
  • Broad experience with supervision, preferably at master's/PhD level
  • Initiate, lead and/or participate in the development of educational quality in the academic communities
  • Competence in knowledge in use (innovation, dissemination and interaction with society) 
  • Academic leadership and elected posts/appointed roles.

 

Associate professor:

You must have the following qualifications required for the position of associate professor:

You must document relevant basic competence in teaching and supervision at a university/higher education-level, as referenced in the NTNUs guidelines for academic positions. If this cannot be documented, you will be required to complete an approved course in university pedagogy within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses.

New employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language by appointment is required, within three years, to demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level B2of the course for Norwegian for speakers of other languages at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.

Salary and conditions

As a Associate Professor / Professor (code 1011 /1013) you are normally paid from gross NOK 690.000– NOK 870.000 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. As professor (code 1013) you are normally paid from gross 840.000 - NOK 1.000.000 per annum before tax. As required by law, 2% of this salary will be deducted and paid into the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.  

After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

For the necessary professional and social interaction, it is a prerequisite that you are physically present and available to the institution on a daily basis.

Department of Electronic Systems (IES) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) has a vacancy for a permanent 100% position as Associate Professor (førsteamanuensis) in system level digital hardware design. 


Digital hardware is an essential enabler for the development of future sustainable technological solutions, from the smallest IoT devices running on energy harvesting, through embedded systems in modern cars and autonomous vehicles, to high-end microprocessors and large datacenters. Frontier research and education into the design of these systems is necessary to ensure academic and industrial excellence and IES is currently strengthening our team with an Associate Professor position in system level digital hardware design.

Together with experienced and enthusiastic faculty staff at the department, the successful candidate is expected to conduct research in cooperation with academic institutions, research centers and companies. We look for a candidate interested in developing research and education within system level digital hardware design. Activities within the subfields of digital hardware and embedded systems design is also foreseen. The candidate should be able to connect her/his activities to strategic research areas at NTNU and IES as well as the European research agenda.

Duties of the position

  •  initialize and lead research within the field of system level digital hardware design. From the perspective of this position, this concerns the methods, analysis and models that form the basis for the implementation of digital hardware and embedded systems.
  • take a leading role in research-based education, including supervision, teaching, and course development for Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. students within digital systems hardware design at IES.
  • participate in administrative activities, such as educational and research boards, that are conducted at IES.

Required qualifications 

You must have a PhD in electrical engineering or computer science in the field of digital hardware or embedded systems design, and qualifications required for the position of associate professor as outlined in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts Section 1-4.

For the overall assessment of the application your submitted scientific works will be a major factor, as well as ability and experience in initiating and leading academic and industrial research and development relevant to the requirements of this position. NTNU is committed to following evaluation criteria for research quality according to The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment - DORA. This means that we pay special attention to the quality and professional breadth of these works. We also consider experience from research management and participation in research projects. We place extra emphasis on your scientific work from the last five years.

Quality and breadth of the teaching qualifications will be evaluated.

Preferred qualifications

We look for candidates who has experience with state-of-the art Electronic Design Automation and Electronic System Level tools for ASIC, FPGA, and/or System-on-Chip design, from specifications, via implementation, to verification and test. Other preferred qualifications include:

  • Interest and experience in didactic development for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in digital hardware and embedded systems design.
  • Ability to attract funding and lead research and development projects in academia or industry.
  • Expertise in power- and energy efficient digital hardware systems design.
  • Expertise in embedded hardware/software systems design and internet of things.
  • Expertise in hardware/software implementations of machine learning and artificial intelligence platforms and applications.
  • Expertise in advanced testbench design and formal verification.
  • Expertise in safe, secure, and sustainable electronic systems design.
  • Expertise in mixed digital and analog systems design.
  • Industrial experience and/or an active network of contacts in industry.

Salary and conditions

As a Associate Professor (code 1011) you are normally paid from gross NOK 690 000 – 870 000 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. As required by law, 2% of this salary will be deducted and paid into the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance withthe regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.  

After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

Forskningsmiljø

I vores laboratorium forsker vi i sygdomsmekanismerne ved kardiometaboliske sygdomme (MetSy), herunder blodprop og blødning i hjernen, (stroke), med henblik på at forstå hvilke cellulære og molekylære mekanismer, der bidrager til funktionstab efter et stroke.

Vi har i gruppen ét overordnet forskningsfokus: at undersøge det neuroinflammatoriske respons, der opstår både ved metaboliske risikofaktorer til stroke og efter iskæmisk stroke for at identificere nye behandlingsstrategier, der kan forbedre overlevelse og følgevirkninger for stroke-patienter.

Vi arbejder translationelt, dvs tæt sammen med kliniske afdelinger og forskningslaboratorier, inden for neurovaskulære sygdomme for at sikre at forskningsresultater hurtigst muligt bliver til gavn for patienterne. Dette projekt udføres i tæt samarbejde med den kliniske, translationelle forskningsenhed ved Afdeling for Hjerne- og Rygmarvsskader, Rigshospitalet, København, hvor en del af projektet vil blive gennemført.

 

Projektbeskrivelse

Iskæmisk stroke (IS) er en af de førende årsager til død og invaliditet på verdensplan. Tidlig opløsning af blodproppen og indlæggelse på stroke-enhed er afgørende for at forbedre det endelige kliniske udfald. Dog er det kun ca. 20 % af alle patienter i Danmark der får mulighed for blodpropsopløsende behandling da den skal gives indenfor få timer fra symptomstart.

Ved en blodprop opstår iltmangel i en del af hjernevævet, og kroppen iværksætter en kaskade af komplekse reaktioner, som er relateret til både akut og kronisk inflammation. 

Vi forsøger i dette projekt skabe evidens for et muligt paradigmeskifte i behandlingen af IS, baseret på visionen om, at man kan modulere både det kroniske og det akutte inflammatoriske respons og forbedrede celleoverlevelse og restitution ved at hæmme skadelige og fremme pro-regenerative inflammatoriske processer.

Vi vil desuden karakterisere de mulige kønsspecifikke effekter af MetSy på følgevirkningerne efter IS hos patienter for derved at bidrage til identifikation af lovende terapeutiske stoffer, der kan forbedre behandlingen af stroke hos patienter med MetSy-relaterede komorbiditeter.

Ph.d.-stipendiaten forventes at arbejde med at undersøge, hvordan kønsafhængig, systemisk inflammation forårsaget af MetSy påvirker det neurologiske udfald hos IS-patienter. Dette vil blive udført i kliniske kohorter ved anvendelse af kliniske og parakliniske data samt analyser af kønsspecifikke sammenhænge mellem metaboliske biomarkører i blodet og kognitive scores, samt mellem biomarkører og MR-evalueringer af læsionsstørrelse og ødemdannelse.

 

Kvalifikationer

Ansøger skal have en uddannelse i medicin og være inden for 1–2 år efter opnået MD-grad.

Dansk autorisation som læge er en forudsætning, og ansøger skal kunne læse og tale dansk.
