• At least 10 years of management and leadership experience, including in terms of office management as well as staff development and supervision
• Strong knowledge of international human rights, including university degree with preferably a specialisation in international human rights law
• Strong knowledge and significant experience of programme management, including RBM, M&E, project design and planning, donor reporting, budget development and follow-up etc.
• Significant professional experience in international development cooperation
• Experience from relevant work in the country/region in question or similar contexts
• Experience of developing and managing strategic partnerships with preferably also access to a broad network of contacts in the country/region
• Fluency in English with excellent English language writing skills
Meriting:
• Knowledge of other languages relevant to work in the country/region
• Manage, coordinate and develop the RWI operations, across thematic areas, in the country/region in question, ensuring a strategic and relevant role for RWI also vis-à-vis global Institute priorities
• Manage the affairs, staff and premises of the RWI Office in in the country/region
• Maintain staff by: recruiting, selecting and orienting employees; maintaining a safe, secure, and legal work environment; and promoting personal and professional growth opportunities including through conducting annual performance and salary reviews
• Develop and monitor budgets related to the work of the Office and oversee financial reporting from the Office
• Regularly assess and monitor developments and results of RWI’s work in the country/region preparing periodic reports on the same
• Assess new opportunities for RWI to pursue in the country/region for resource mobilisation purposes, and develop proposals for new initiatives
• Stay informed of relevant developments concerning the work of the Office
• Participate in meetings of relevance to the Office’s work, including with relevant Swedish and foreign authorities and organisations, representing RWI in the country/region
• Initiate and maintain regular contact with relevant authorities, organisations, donors, etc.
• Contribute to relevant organisational development initiatives of the Institute and other joint Institute initiatives
• Contribute to the development of RWI strategies and priorities for the country/region in which the Office is based
• Coordinate with other Directors of Office and Team Leaders, as well as other relevant staff, to pursue synergies, coordination and collaboration
• Develop work methodologies and tools for the improvement of programmes
• Periodic travel to activity sites to successfully implement the duties above
The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) is an independent academic institution established in 1984. RWI has since 1990 carried out a wide range of research, academic education, and institutional capacity development programmes internationally in the human rights field, mainly with the support of Swedish Development Cooperation.
