About the position

The Department of Historical Sciences at the Faculty of Humanity offers an exciting 3-year PhD position that gives you the opportunity to develop a strong profile as researcher. The 3-year PhD position is associated with a European Research Council/Horizon Europe research project, entitled “BLOCKADE: The Hidden Weapon. Blockade in the Era of the Two Worlds”. The project explores the impact and legacy of the (sea) blockades during and after both world wars and is undertaken by international teams in four locations, including at NTNU, the University of Freiburg, the University of Amsterdam and the University of Hamburg. For a position as a PhD research fellow, the goal is a completed doctoral education and the attainment of a doctoral degree.

The PhD research fellow will focus on the work package Blockade-induced innovations and imitations, and postwar market integration. The Blockades and the expectation of blockades in the era of the world wars prompted autarky policies, investments in R&D, and import substitution by imitation as well as innovation to cope with scarcity. Whereas some of these innovations and new domestic industries were commercial failures after the war, others became competitive, integrating new (imitative) industries in the world market and crowding out old suppliers. Little is known about the long-term effects of most blockade-induced innovations and the fate of new industries resulting from blockade-induced protection. The work package will use company files relating to two countries affected by the blockade in one of the world wars (e.g. Italy, Norway, Austria-Hungary or Japan, among many others), in order to explain when and why innovations and imitations failed or, by contrast, proved to be of long-term benefit to companies and economies.

The PhD research fellow is encouraged to develop their own approach to these questions, for example by focusing on one specific industrial sector. The work package is one of six positions across the four BLOCKADE locations that should speak to the theme of 'Integration/disintegration', exploring the short- and long-term integrative and disintegrative effects of blockades with regard to markets, wartime societies and the international order. The team members will work together across locations to build a rich primary source base for BLOCKADE.

Planned starting date for this position is 01.09.2026.

The PhD research fellow will work with the project leader of the Trondheim team, Jonas Scherner. Your immediate leader will be the Head of Department.

About the project

BLOCKADE (ERC Synergy Grant #101166983, www.blockades.eu) explores the two blockades of the First and Second World Wars, and their aftermaths. In these total wars, the Allies imposed a global blockade on their enemies, and the Central and Axis powers responded with blockades of their own. Over a period of six years, the BLOCKADE team, based in Trondheim, Hamburg, Amsterdam and Freiburg, will analyse the impact of blockades on households, states, corporations and the international order; on the development of political and military strategy; on how the wars were prepared, experienced and remembered; and on how peace was made. BLOCKADE sets out to prove that these blockades are crucial to understanding not only the way the world wars were fought but also their globality and totality, their immediate effects and their long-term global repercussions. More information about the project can also be found on www.blockades.eu.

At NTNU’s Department of Modern History and Society, the project team will be located within a rewarding professional environment with an active community of PhD research fellows and postdoctoral fellows.

Duties of the position

  • You must meet the requirements for admission to the faculty's Doctoral Programme
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills in English (equivalent to level B2)
  • Excellent reading skills in the languages of both of the countries to be examined in the doctoral project (equivalent to level B1)

PLEASE NOTE: For detailed information about what the application must contain, see paragraph “About the application”.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with NTNUs guidelines for recruitment positions and Regulations for the degrees philosophiae doctor (ph.d.) and philosophiae doctor (ph.d.) in artistic development work at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)for general criteria for the position.

Preferred selection criteria

About the position

RIFT-2-DRIFT : From continental rift to oceanic drift: constraining the initiation of spreading ridges

The RIFT-2-DRIFT project seeks to identify, map and characterize the formation of an oceanic ridge.

The main objectives are: (1) constrain the final separation of continental lithosphere, (2) provide a definition to the ‘breakup’ stage in the Wilson Cycle together with a mapping toolbox, (3) characterize the initiation of an oceanic spreading centre.

For this project, the NTNU Department of Geosciences is looking for a highly motivated, independent geo-scientist for a full-time three-year PhD student position on the topic.

The PhD candidate will have to work with seismic reflection interpretation (2D regional and 3D blocks), potential field modelling, and plate reconstructions.

The total duration of the Ph.D. position is three years, starting by August 1st 2026.

The PhD candidate will be based in the Geology & Geophysics team at the Department of Geosciences, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) based in Trondheim, Norway - under the supervision of Prof. Gwenn Peron-Pinvidic.

Your immediate leader will be the Head of Department.

About the project

The RIFT-2-DRIFT project will explore and resolve the geological processes of lithospheric breakup and oceanic ridge formation, bringing distal rifted margins and first domains of oceanic crust to the forefront. Based on a holistic approach, including a multi-site, multi-method and multi-interpretation investigation strategy, we will characterize how, when and where an oceanic spreading system initiates, and define the related diagnostic geometries and associated geophysical signals. The archetype magma-rich Norwegian and magma-poor Iberian margins will serve as key laboratories, in conjunction with the Brazilian Campos basin and Labrador Sea NW Newfoundland as test systems. These study sites will permit to span the spectrum of possible tectonic and magmatic architectures. Using geophysical and geological datasets, we will conduct systematic mapping of the structural, stratigraphic, and volcanic geometries, in an innovative 'multi-scenarios' interpretation protocol, strengthened by a careful compilation of the related geophysical signals and modern numerical modelling experiments.

The research activities will be handled by the project manager and two PhD students. Leading experts in rifted margins, oceanic domains, plate reconstructions and numerical modelling will complete our team of researchers at the forefront of these scientific disciplines.

Head of Brands at TMC Nordic - Take the lead on premium beauty brands across the Nordics
HiTalento ApS
Denmark, Søborg

TMC Nordic is looking for an ambitious and visionary Head of Brands, Nordic to take full ownership of a growing portfolio of niche fragrances and premium beauty brands — and to lead a talented Brand Marketing team with clarity, energy and strong commercial direction.

This position is ideal for a Senior Brand Manager or Brand Lead ready to step into a broader leadership role with full responsibility for brand strategy, portfolio performance and team development.

Your Responsibilities

In this role, you will take end‑to‑end ownership of a dynamic and diverse brand portfolio. You will work closely with international brand owners to ensure long‑term alignment on strategy, commercial priorities and future growth — and you will be responsible for driving each brand’s success across the Nordic markets.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the creation of best‑in‑class commercial and marketing plans, covering product launches, trade activation, pricing, assortment, digital strategy and PR

  • Translating brand owners’ expectations and strategic direction into actionable commercial plans tailored for the Nordics

  • Identifying new business opportunities and turning insights into clear tactical initiatives

  • Managing budgets and monitoring performance through ongoing reviews of spend, sell‑in/sell‑out data, brand P&Ls, sales forecasts and market trends

  • Taking overall responsibility for Nordic brand performance, including budgeting and profitability, to ensure sustainable growth

  • Acting as the primary point of contact for brand owners and building strong, trust‑based partnerships

  • Collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders across all markets to secure seamless execution and strong commercial results

What You Bring

  • 2–3 years of experience in a similar commercial marketing or brand role

  • A hands‑on marketer who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and can manage multiple projects with attention to detail

  • A relevant higher education degree (HA, HD, cand.merc or similar)

  • Fluency in Danish and English (knowledge of another Nordic language is an advantage)

  • Strong analytical and strategic abilities, with the talent to turn insights into meaningful action

  • Solid proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel

  • A genuine passion for branding, marketing and premium beauty

  • A structured, solution‑oriented and proactive mindset — and a collaborative personality that values teamwork and shared success

What We Offer

We offer an exciting, high‑impact role in a fast‑growing organisation guided by Passion, Relations and Results.

You’ll join a dynamic and informal environment where ideas are welcomed, responsibility is encouraged, and you have real influence on your workday.

You will also get the opportunity to work with some of the most iconic niche and prestige fragrance brands in the market — and play a key part in shaping their success across the Nordics.

Why TMC Nordic?

TMC Nordic is a leading Nordic distributor of cosmetics within the niche and luxury segment.

We are partly privately owned and partly owned by the German Nobilis Group and the Gebr. Heinemann Group — and we are entering an exciting expansion phase in the Nordic region.

We offer a work environment where ambition, collaboration and transparency are central values. Here, you will have the opportunity to grow your skills, take meaningful responsibility, and thrive in a company that values diversity, individuality and personal development.

Our headquarters are located in Søborg, with local sales offices in Sweden and Norway.

Across the organisation, we are more than 70 dedicated employees who share a passion for bringing innovative beauty brands and exclusive niche fragrances to Nordic consumers.
