Senior Director Engineering, Quick-Commerce (Leiter/in - Engineering)
Delivery Hero SE
Germany
Job Description
As the Senior Director of Engineering for QC Growth, you will be the visionary leader behind the engines that power our global Q-Commerce ambition. You aren’t just managing code; you are overseeing a massive, distributed ecosystem—from global content and catalog systems as well as promo tool to high-concurrency graph API services to cutting-edge AI data products.
Leading an organization of 100+ engineers across multiple tribes and domains, you will bridge the gap between complex distributed systems and world-class customer experiences. Your goal is to simplify the complex, scale the successful, and mentor the next generation of technical leaders in the heart of Berlin.
Furthermore, you will closely work and collaborate with our various brands around the world, to build an optimized solution for their needs while driving for alignment to reduce overall complexity. If you're a creative problem solver who is eager to deliver solutions and hungry for a new adventure, an international workplace is waiting for you in the heart of Berlin!
Your mission:
- Strategic Leadership: Own the technical roadmap for the QC Growth product line, driving long-term OKRs that align engineering excellence with aggressive business growth.
- Scaling Excellence: Direct a 100-person engineering organization, fostering a culture of high performance, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.
- Architectural Stewardship: Act as the North Star for architectural decisions, ensuring our microservices—handling massive global traffic—are resilient, scalable, and secure.
- Data Innovation: Oversee the evolution of our central QC data pipelines, transforming raw data into "first-class" products especially in the area of category classification, affordability perception, and content enrichment.
- Global Collaboration: Partner with international brands across 70 countries to build localized solutions while maintaining a unified, low-complexity global platform.
- Organizational Evolution: Boldly lead organizational design, hiring, and talent development to ensure the team is structured for maximum velocity and impact.
Qualifications
Your heroic skills:
- The Track Record: 8+ years of engineering leadership, with at least 4 years managing multiple managers/teams in a large-scale, distributed microservices environment.
- Technical Depth: A deep understanding of modern stacks. You should be fluent in at least 70% of our ecosystem: Golang, Python, Java, Postgres, TypeScript, Kafka, GraphQL, BigQuery, gRPC, and Kubernetes (AWS/GCP).
- Operational Mastery: You have a "systems thinking" mindset, with expert-level knowledge of service-oriented architecture, cloud-native infrastructure, and high-concurrency troubleshooting.
- Business Acumen: You don’t just ship features; you move metrics. You are comfortable translating business KPIs into technical requirements and vice-versa.
- People First: You are a passionate mentor. You take pride in growing Directors and Engineering Managers, building a "talent magnet" organization.
- The Agile Mindset: You thrive in fast-paced, fault-tolerant environments where "done" is better than "perfect," but "excellent" is the baseline.
- Language & Travel: You speak fluent English and are willing to travel once a quarter.
Bonus Points:
- A proven history of building e-commerce or marketplace models at scale.
- Hands-on experience with Machine Learning integration and large-scale data products.
