How will you contribute?
As part of a new phase of growth for ESRIC, we are seeking a Head of Group for the Space Resources Innovation Ecosystem group. This group promotes innovation within and outside of ESRIC through a unique combination of programmes, infrastructure and initiatives, including programmes to support early-stage ventures in space resources and the operation of infrastructure such as Europe's largest Dusty Thermal Vacuum Chamber. The group works closely with ESRIC's strategic partner ESA across many of its activities. We are looking for a Head of Group with proven experience of leading space resources innovation initiatives, and who understand the specific needs of this emerging sector and the central role that ESRIC can occupy.
Reporting to the Head of ESRIC, the Head of the Space Resources Innovation Ecosystem will be engaged in the definition, execution and implementation of projects and programmes that lead innovation in space resources, both commercial and technical (e.g. increasing TRL). In coordination with the Head of ESRIC, you will define the group's roadmap and its objectives, and manage the current and future project portfolio. You will manage the group's budget and resources, including team allocation on projects. You will guide the development of competencies of the group, aligned with the overall objectives and mission of ESRIC. How will you contribute?
The new Dusty Thermal Vacuum Chamber (DTVC) is integral to the development of large-scale research and testing infrastructure at ESRIC, through our strategic partnership with ESA.
The DTVC Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing test procedures for dynamic and thermal vacuum environmental testing, in the presence of lunar regolith simulant, of space components and subsystems. They will work with the facility lead to perform the testing on hardware for lunar applications.
ESRIC's end-to-end support of space industry customers, across all phases of DTVC test campaigns, will be key part of the DTVC Test Engineer's role.
To develop specific skills for this exciting role, it is foreseen that the DTVC Engineer will undertake a training program that may include visiting various space agency facilities, focussed on gaining experience from ESRIC's international partners in all aspects of DTVC operation, maintenance and space hardware testing applications.
Key Tasks:
• Responsibility for the DTVC including planning and executing the operation and maintenance activities of the chamber and ancillary equipment
• Work with ESRIC colleagues, ESA, partners and customers to prepare for DTVC testing:
• define DTVC test equipment specifications
• define test procedures, standards and setup of DTVC tests in accordance with user requirements and relevant ESA space related test standards
• Support to customers across all phases of DTVC testing
• Support towards preparation and pre-processing of hardware
• Preparation of DTVC chamber and associated equipment and materials for DTVC test-readiness
• Operate and conduct DTVC testing as needed
• Support towards post-processing and testing of hardware after DTVC tests
• Evaluate test results and prepare test reports related to DTVC and facility for stakeholders and customers
• Lead efforts in development and improvement of test processes, costs and problem resolution
• Respect of LIST Health Safety and Environment (HSE) policies ensuring protocols are enforced for all DTVC activities
• Provide training and support to users of the DTVC and facility
• Provide coordination, direction and leadership for technicians as needed to ensure equipment performance, maintenance, and up-time through troubleshooting and implementation of corrective actions
• Shift work and availability (on-call) outside of normal working hours to ensure supervision during 24/7 critical testing phases of the DTVC

Your role
The successful candidate will strengthen the Department of Law's research area in Banking, Financial and Commercial Law, which is a cornerstone of the Department's academic profile and a key contributor to the University's reputation. They will pursue research and teaching in this field, focussing on Luxembourg, EU, and comparative transnational perspectives. The position is of particular strategic relevance given the Department's ambition to maintain its leadership in financial law, a domain central to Luxembourg's role as a global financial centre.
The ideal candidate shows potential to:
• Develop an internationally recognized research profile in banking law in a broad sense, e.g., prudential regulation and bank supervision, depositary law, regulation of payments and payment systems, financial technologies, sustainable finance, secured transactions and consumer financial contracts, links to financial markets law
• Publish extensively in top-tier peer-reviewed journals, monographs, or authoritative treatises
• Contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives such as the FutureFinTechNCER and/or collaborate with the Department of Finance in the field of sustainable finance
• Teach in core areas of banking law. The ability to contribute to teaching in related areas of commercial law—such as financial and securities law, company law, insolvency law, the law of commercial contracts and torts - is an asset
• Cover legal frameworks at both EU and Luxembourg levels, adopting a comparative approach that includes neighbouring jurisdictions and other global financial centres
• Engage with Luxembourg and EU regulators (e.g. CSSF, CBL, ECB, ESMA), international organizations, e.g. IOSCO, BIS, FSB, etc., and other stakeholders, e.g. (inter )national law firms, industry and academic associations
• Acquire competitive research funding and establish and lead their own research team
• Show and develop leadership potential
The candidate will join one of Europe's most prominent academic groups in banking and financial law, distinguished by both its intellectual strength and research output. They will actively contribute to the University's “Third Mission” by engaging with Luxembourg and EU financial law, and will be encouraged to develop into a leadership role within the Department. This position offers the opportunity to gain recognition and respect in Luxembourg's legal community, renowned for its emphasis on financial law expertise and its strong integration of academic insight with professional practice. Your profile
• A Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD degree in Law
• Experience and interest in engaging in academic research at the highest level
• Publications in internationally recognized journals, monographs with international publishers or other publications in banking law (or other fields of financial law) indicating potential for excellent research
• Potential and aptitude for teaching and supervising research at the university level
• An excellent academic track record demonstrating both scholarly excellence and leadership potential
• Experience with externally funded research projects and interdisciplinarity is considered to be an asset
• Experience in interdisciplinary research—particularly at the intersection of law, finance, and technology—is a strong asset
The successful candidate must commit to lecturing banking law, as well as related topics in financial and commercial law, at bachelor and master levels.
The successful candidate is also expected to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, prepare grant applications for external funding and actively engage with other research institutions and industry partners to establish research cooperations in Luxembourg and beyond.
Language requirements:
