The mission
As Senior R&D Engineer, your mission is to strengthen and accelerate our technology development by connecting deep technical understanding with practical implementation. You will work hands-on with our materials and processes to understand their behavior, identify limitations, and define what needs to be improved or rethought. Based on this, you will drive and support development initiatives, from material improvements and new processing approaches to solving complex challenges impacting performance, reliability, and scalability.
You will work closely with our R&D Director Thomas and act as a senior technical contributor and sparring partner, challenging assumptions and highlighting blind spots.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a highly experienced and intellectually curious R&D professional with a genuine passion for science and technology. You combine deep technical understanding with the ability to turn insights into action, and you actively engage with your field beyond your day-to-day work, whether through writing, discussions, or continuous exploration.
You likely have:
A PhD in physics, materials science, or a related field (ideally within third-generation semiconductor materials such as transistors, perovskites, or similar)
Around 10+ years of experience working with advanced materials or processes in a relevant industry (e.g. photovoltaics, semiconductors, coatings, or similar)

Through programmes in Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Sudan, LPI brings a range of participatory approaches and methodologies that are effective in creating space for dialogue, violence prevention, and peacebuilding action. LPI also supports the development of policies that help to improve the lives of people in places affected by violence, including through its Horn of Africa Regional Programme based in Addis Ababa. Increasingly, LPI is also seeking to link its work to the global policy discussions on peacebuilding and conflict transformation with a view to inform the theoretical and policy debates with the practice of lived experience of peacebuilders.
About your team
The Knowledge and Learning Unit (KLU) is a cross-organisational resource body to ensure that LPI proactively generates and applies knowledge across its programmes for enhanced quality of conflict transformation work. The KLU has several core functions: enhancing and supporting monitoring, evaluation and learning processes, generating new knowledge on selected thematic learning agendas, documenting LPI methods and models and providing support to various strategic and every-day programme processes and activities.
About your role
You will work closely with the other members of the KLU, with a focus on Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), project and programme design, as well as analysis and research.
Your overall areas of responsibilities will include:
Ensuring that LPI’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) systems are strengthened and updated with best practices.
Ensuring LPI’s monitoring practice, data systems and knowledge management across programmes
are in line with quality standards and donor requirements for MEL.

Tasks
You will be involved in cutting edge research projects in the field of bio-based materials from trees. You will be working in the laboratory with ongoing innovation projects in close collaboration with colleagues from the R&D teams, and you will be part of a dynamic international and interdisciplinary environment. We have high focus on health and safety, and as part of the role you will work actively with these aspects together with colleagues.
Your main tasks will be to plan and carry out material processing and characterization in the laboratory including sample preparation, running standardized tests as well as routine material handling. You will use optical, thermal and mechanical methods to characterize the materials. In your work you will be recording, evaluating and documenting experimental and analytical data using LIMS, ELN and other documentation platforms.
Requirements
A material science, chemistry or other relevant degree is a prerequisite, and it is a plus if you have 1-3 years of experience of laboratory work. Alternatively, you have been working in a chemical / material science laboratory for 10 or more years and can build upon a strong and broad chemistry / material science knowledge. You are skilled in Office and it is good if you are familiar with LIMS and ELN. Preferably you have knowledge in polymer and composite material characterization techniques.
You have good team work and communication skills and enjoy working hands on in a laboratory environment. As a person, you consider yourself to be a structured and well-organized professional who considers safety the most important thing. Excellent skills in verbal and written English are required.

Lead Counsel, Packaging Solutions (Temporary)
We are now looking for a Lead Counsel for our Packaging Solutions division for the period 1st of June 2019 until 15th of August 2020. The division provides fibre-based board materials and corrugated packaging products and services that are designed for a wide array of applications. Our renewable high-end packaging solutions serve leading converters, brand owners and retailers – including those in e-commerce that are looking to optimise performance, drive innovation and improve their sustainability.
Tasks
Your main task will be to lead the legal work for the Packaging Solutions division. You will be an active business partner to the EVP Packaging Solutions, the division leadership team, and the division, and continuously work to identify and manage legal and compliance risks and opportunities. You will also act as the gatekeeper of the company reputation and long-term shareholder value; provide strategic and tactical advice regarding contract negotiation, interpretation, claims and disputes, and coordinate legal teams in Poland and Russia.
Moreover, you will provide legal analysis and support for the Packaging Solutions business, including structuring, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating domestic and international transactions (sales, M&A, JVs and otherwise) and disputes. Furthermore, you will develop and support division innovation and development agenda, including joint development agreements, acquisitions and licensing set-ups, as well as develop and deliver legal and contract trainings to Packaging Solutions staff.
You will report to Head of Legal Services. You will inform other Lead Counsels about Packaging Solutions matters concerning such respective counsel’s Division or unit, be an active team member of the Group Legal function, and contribute to the development of the function, of course communicating with staff at all levels of the organization.
Requirements
A law degree from an internationally recognized university is a prerequisite, combined with a minimum of 6 years post graduate legal experience in a law firm or in-house counsel position. Excellent skills in verbal and written English, and ability to travel domestically and internationally are required.
You have a strong legal acumen, and substantial experience and success in drafting, negotiating, and closing complex business transactions, including purchase, service, M&A, joint ventures and license contracts. You can resolve legal issues quickly and effectively and make on-the-spot risk calls.
Ability to prioritize conflicting demands from multiple business clients in a fast-paced environment, as well as strong oral and written communication skills, together with the ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization, describe you, in addition to strong interpersonal, collaborative, influencing and leadership skills.
