DTU Additive Manufacturing Lab (AM-Lab) at DTU Construct is looking for a dedicated student assistant to support the daily research operations of the lab, contribute to outreach and communication activities, and assist in the planning and execution of courses and industry events.
The job
As a student assistant at AM-Lab, your primary tasks will include: operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting 3D printers and other advanced digital fabrication equipment in the lab; designing and producing mechanical CAD solutions and custom components for lab machinery, including brackets, fixtures, and upgrades to production systems (e.g. designing and manufacturing a laser mounting bracket for the LPBF system to enable integration of an upgraded laser module); preparing metallographic cross-sections and performing materials characterisation using microscopy and surface analysis; managing the AM-Lab website and LinkedIn presence, and producing content for outreach and industry engagement; drafting and sending professional correspondence to industry partners and academic collaborators; conducting guided tours of the lab for visitors, students, and industry representatives; assisting in the planning, coordination, and delivery of a 3-week intensive course in additive manufacturing (August); facilitating knowledge sharing on additive manufacturing technologies across DTU faculties and research groups; supporting metrology tasks and dimensional verification of manufactured components; contributing to the development and maintenance of lab safety procedures and ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
Our expectations of you
We are looking for a student assistant who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Design and Innovation, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field and is currently enrolled in a master’s programme in Materials and Manufacturing Engineering (or similar) at DTU. You should have practical experience with CAD software (e.g. CREO, SOLIDWORKS, OnShape) and digital fabrication technologies including 3D printing and laser cutting. Experience with metrology, metallographic sample preparation, and materials characterisation techniques is highly desirable. Strong communication skills in both Danish and English are essential, as the role involves outreach to industry and academic stakeholders. You are structured, self-driven, and comfortable working independently in a lab environment. Experience with teaching or instruction is an advantage.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations, or with the relevant union.
Working hours are on average 15 hours per week and can be organized flexibly in relation to holidays, exams, etc. Starting date is June 1, 2026 (or according to mutual agreement). The employment runs as long as you are an active student.
The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.
