Som projektkoordinator bliver du en central drivkraft i koordineringen og understøttelsen af en portefølje af forskningsprojekter i tæt samarbejde med den videnskabelige projektleder.
Du bliver en del af et stærkt og engageret team i instituttets centrale Projektsupport, hvor vi arbejder tæt sammen om at understøtte forskere gennem hele projektets livscyklus – fra ansøgning til afslutning og evaluering.
DTU Vind og Energisystemer er et internationalt forskningsmiljø med ca. 500 medarbejdere, som samarbejder med virksomheder, offentlige organisationer og universiteter verden over for at drive den grønne omstilling.
I rollen fungerer du som både sparringspartner og operativ tovholder, der sikrer, at projekterne gennemføres effektivt og i overensstemmelse med bevillingsgivernes krav.
Dine primære opgaver
Du vil blandt andet arbejde med at:
- Koordinere daglige aktiviteter i forskningsprojekter, herunder møder, workshops og rapportering
- Skabe fremdrift, struktur og overblik i projekterne i tæt samarbejde med projektlederne
- Understøtte projektadministration både internt på instituttet og i samarbejdet med eksterne partnere
- Sikre, at krav, deadlines og formalia fra bevillingsgivere overholdes
- Bidrage til planlægning og gennemførelse af projektaktiviteter
- Koordinere med instituttets økonomienhed og DTU’s centrale juraafdeling i forbindelse med bl.a. rapportering og kontraktarbejde
- Sikre klar og sammenhængende kommunikation om projekterne i samarbejde med projektledere og kommunikationsmedarbejdere
Du skal trives med at tage ansvar for koordineringen af projekterne og – i tæt samarbejde med projektlederen – sikre styring af centrale processer, så projekterne når sikkert i mål.

Vi søger to profiler, der skal arbejde tæt sammen om ledelses- og bestyrelsesbetjeningen og skabe overblik i komplekse sager:

Ansvarsområder:

Om Policykontoret
Du bliver kollega til 9 dygtige og engagerede medarbejdere i DTU’s Policykontor, som er en del af Afdelingen for Policy og Relationer, der beskæftiger godt 24 medarbejdere. Kontorets primære ansvarsområder er betjening af DTU’s bestyrelse og direktion i forbindelse med interne og eksterne møder, konferencer m.v. Kontoret understøtter ledelsen med data og analyser til DTU’s ledelsesprocesser, strategirealisering samt med policy-notater om forsknings- og uddannelsespolitik og har desuden ansvaret for, at DTU har en god og konstruktiv dialog med politikere og ministerier.

A PhD Position in Close Collaboration with the Maritime Industry
A ship is designed once, but it is lived with for decades. Moreover, a ship design company rarely works with just one ship. It works with an idea of a ship, designs that get evolved, customised, and built each time differently. At any moment, different instances of that idea exist side by side: some still on the drawing board, some under construction, others already operating and sending back streams of sensor data from daily operation. The knowledge that connects these instances, and that connects design, construction, and operation more broadly, rarely lives in one coherent place. It is scattered across documents, tools, and people, out of reach of the AI methods that could otherwise make efficient use of it.
This PhD position aims to investigate how such knowledge could be represented so it holds together across many instances and lifecycle phases of a ship, and becomes something AI methods, not only engineers, can work with directly. This includes examining how components, systems, and the dependencies between them might be captured in a shared structure, and comparing candidate approaches, such as ontologies, knowledge graphs, graph databases, or multi taxonomy databases, and the AI techniques needed to build and query them, to see where each fits, where each falls short, and whether a hybrid solution serves better.
A good representation should not only describe a vessel as it is, but support AI-assisted inference: surfacing what else is affected by a change, what may be missing from an incomplete design, or what the likely consequences are elsewhere in the vessel. Whether such a representation should fit existing practices and tools, or justify changing them, is itself an open question, to be weighed against the time and value it can bring to the industry.
Part of the motivation is that design and operational data, gathered across many vessels and many projects, could form one coherent body of knowledge that AI methods can search and learn from, helping surface relevant precedent and consequences for new designs rather than starting each one from scattered documents and individual experience. Turning that possibility into something concrete is part of the candidate's task, who will narrow this broad research space toward specific applications and evaluate them against real design tasks.
The work is carried out in close, ongoing cooperation with the local maritime industry, grounded in real vessels, real data, and real engineering problems. Candidates should be available and able to obtain any necessary clearance to work directly and regularly with the project's industrial partners.
In short, this PhD position aims to investigate:
- How one design, one idea of a ship, exists as many instances at once: on paper, under construction, or already at sea
- Why the knowledge connecting design, construction, and operation stays scattered across documents and tools, out of reach of AI
- How components, systems, and their dependencies could be represented in a way that works across all of these instances, and support AI-assisted inference about missing information or the consequences of change
- Whether ontologies, knowledge graphs, graph databases, multi taxonomy databases, or hybrid approaches, together with the AI methods to build and query them, are the right fit, and where each may fall short
- How AI could help turn design and operational data from many vessels into a coherent body of knowledge that informs new designs

About the project
The PhD project will be part of the Norwegian Maritime AI Center that aims to accelerate operationalization of AI in the maritime value chains. The center shall position the maritime sector for accelerated and successful use of AI. The demand for safe and sustainable maritime activities, as well as the shortage of crew and engineers, are key drivers for change in the maritime sector. At the same time, there is a pull for growth, increased efficiency and profitability, while managing volatility in the markets. Moreover, the sector is critically important for global supply chains and security in a tense geopolitical situation. To demonstrate and prototype maritime AI solutions, the center will address a diverse and impactful set of use cases: Logistics, shipping and business transactions; Ship design and construction; Voyage planning and optimization; Condition monitoring and maintenance; Crew training; Maritime traffic and ship surveillance; Decarbonization and energy management; Autonomous ships and remote control.
The research partners are the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, (NTNU), University of Oslo, Oslo School of Architecture and Design, Royal Norwegian Naval Academy, Norwegian Mapping Authority, MET and SINTEF Nordvest. There are about 30 user partners from the maritime sector, in addition to hundreds of members of the Maritime Forum, Blue Maritime, Ocean Autonomy, and Maritime CleanTech clusters. The center will be a hub, orchestrating the interfaces with research partners and user partners to facilitate collaboration, knowledge creation, dissemination, innovation, and sharing of knowledge. The Norwegian Maritime AI Center is funded by the Research Council of Norway and the partners for the period 2026-2030. Duties of the position
- Take part in the mandatory PhD research education program obtaining a doctorate
- Develop research and AI applied to the Maritime Domain, with strong cooperation with the industrial partners
- Collaborate effectively within the research team, remaining open to constructive feedback throughout the research process
- Carry out research of good quality within the framework described above
- Participate actively in discussion with the industrial partners
- Participate in activities in the Maritime AI center
- Participate in relevant dissemination activities for the academia and industry
- Conduct independent research and publish the result in recognized scientific journals and present them at international conferences
Be prepared for changes to your work duties after employment.
Required selection criteria
- You must have a relevant Master's degree in Engineering, Naval Architecture, Computer Science or equivalent. Your course of study must correspond to a five-year Norwegian course, where 120 credits have been obtained at master's level. Master students can apply, but the master's degree must be obtained and documented before starting the position.
- You must have a strong academic background from your previous studies and have an average grade from your Master's degree study, or equivalent education, which is equal to B or better compared to NTNU's grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic foundation. If you have a weaker grade background, you maybe considered if you can document that you are particularly suitable for a PhD education.
- Affinity with programming, AI-related tools and a desire to work with the development of applied computational tools
- You must meet the requirements for admission to the faculty's Doctoral Programme in Engineering
- Excellent oral and written presentation skills in English

Salary and conditions
In the position of PhD Candidate, code 1017, your gross salary will normally be NOK 550 800,-per annum depending on qualifications and seniority. A 2% statutory contribution to the State Pension Fund is deducted from the salary.
The employment period is 3 years for the doctoral work.
For employment as a PhD Candidate, it is a prerequisite that you gain admission to the PhD programme in Engineering within three months of your employment contract start date, and that you participate in an organized doctoral programme through out the period of employment.
As an employee at NTNU, it is important that you keep yourself up to date with academic and organizational changes and adapt to them.
For the necessary professional and social interaction, it is a prerequisite that you are physically present and available to the institution on a daily basis.
