About the position

The Department of Geography and Social Anthropology at NTNU has a vacancy for a 3 years Postdoctoral Fellow position in Hydrology and Catchment Biogeochemistry.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will work on the project Adapting to climate risks via landscape-scale solutions: effects of peatland restoration on floods and water browning (ANTIPASTI). 
The project clarifies how peatland restoration modifies the way landscapes retain, transform and release water and biogeochemical elements, eventually affecting their capability of modulating floods and aquatic carbon fluxes.

The project is funded by the Research Council of Norway and realized in partnership with the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Italy), the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL, Switzerland), and the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA, Norway). 

As a Postdoctoral Fellow you will join an interdisciplinary, international and stimulating academic environment, with supporting colleagues for you to excel in your academic career. The Postdoctoral Fellow position may entail a secondary affiliation and recurrent research visits at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering of the University of Trento (Italy).

We are looking for a capable and motivated candidate with an interest in investigating the effects of peatland restoration on hydrology and catchment biogeochemistry by means of a diverse set of methods, including field investigations, modelling and data-driven analyses. 

Your immediate leader will be the Head of Department.

Duties of the position

• Carry out high-quality scientific research
• Publish research results in high-impact, peer-reviewed scientific journals
• Take responsibility for the field research activities of the project in collaboration with the PI
• Curate the resulting datasets and use them for own research and scientific publications
• Work on data-driven and modeling analyses related to soil saturation, hydrologic response and hydrologic functioning of peatland headwaters and river catchments
• Engage in scientific discussions and actively participate in the research group 
• Participate in international activities such as conferences and research stays
• Career promoting work such as co-supervision of master and PhD students from the project partner institutions, research funding management or other academic development work 
   

Required selection criteria

• You must have completed a doctoral degree in Hydrology, Geoscience, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography or similar fields of study. 
• If you are in the final phase of your doctorate and can document that the thesis has been submitted or that the defense date has been confirmed, your application can be considered even if you have not defended. NOTE: Documentation of the obtained doctorate must be presented before you can take up the position
• Previous research experience in the field of hydrology, catchment biogeochemistry, peatland restoration or other fields of study relevant to the project
• Authored publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals (also under review or submitted)
• Interest in field-based research and affinity for the outdoors
• Curiosity and an entrepreneurial attitude
• Fluency in English and good writing skills

Preferred selection criteria

• Experience in at least one of the following (listed in priority order): i) field-based scientific research in hydrology or catchment biogeochemistry; ii) environmental surveying by means of unmanned aerial vehicles and use of the gathered data for scientific research; iii) development and application of analytical and numerical models and excellent programming skills
• Interest in co-supervising master and PhD students from the partner institutions of the project
• Willingness to discuss and contribute ideas towards the development of research projects

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 633 400,- per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 3 years. The candidate must start latest March 1st, 2027.

About the position

A PhD research fellow position in the field of direct-write nanopatterning of functional materials for electronics and photocatalysis is available. The academic position will provide the opportunity for professional development through studies towards a PhD degree in nanotechnology. 

The tasks for the PhD research fellow will cover the development of thermal scanning probe lithography as a transformative tool for precision nanostructuring of functional materials, providing maskless, damage‑free patterning with sub‑10 nm control. The nanostructuring will focus on complex oxide thin films, van der Waals films and plasmonic photocatalysts. The position will also involve synthesis of the materials as well as characterization of structural, functional and catalytic properties. The successful candidate will be affiliated to the FACET research group at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTNU and will have a strong collaboration with the Catalysis Group at Department of Chemical Engineering, NTNU and NTNU Nanolab. You will work in a multidisciplinary and international environment. The supervisor team will consist of Professor Mari-Ann Einarsrud, Professor Magnus Rønning and Associate Professor Ingrid Hallsteinsen.

About the position

Robotic autonomy still lacks a universal architectural blueprint capable of operating across the wide diversity of robot configurations found in aerial, ground, and aquatic domains. Today’s autonomy stacks remain highly specialized to each morphology, in sharp contrast to the conserved neural organization of the mammalian brain, which provides a common computational blueprint across species despite profound differences in body plan and ecological niche. Motivated by this analogy – and building on recent advances in foundation models, neural model predictive control, and robotic world models – this PhD project will investigate principles and mechanisms for a shared autonomy architecture that generalizes across embodiments. The overarching ambition is to advance the foundations of a universal science of embodied AI, where perception, action, and learning are co-designed to support intelligent behavior in robots of fundamentally different forms. 

The PhD candidate will be supervised by Kostas Alexis, head of the Autonomous Robots Lab (ARL), and the position is part of the recently-funded Norwegian Centre for Embodied AI.

In the position of PhD Candidate, code 1017, your gross salary will normally be from NOK 550 800,- per annum depending on qualifications and seniority. A 2% statutory contribution to the State Pension Fund is deducted from the salary.

About the position

Aerial robotics have scored significant successes yet – interestingly – they have long employed body morphologies that merely represent miniaturizations of manned aviation concepts or have resorted to biomimicry. However, novel missions and environments require that we look into new designs and concepts both for the robot’s morphology as well as its control and autonomy. 

To that end, soft bodies offer the possibility to create flying robots with unique capabilities. By exploiting advanced materials, we can achieve anisotropic compliance – offering softness only in the desired directions of interaction – while maintaining light weight and high control authority. Importantly, body softness can be exploited by appropriately designed control in order to achieve enhanced safety and the ability to navigate particularly cluttered and high-risk environments. In turn, deriving such control laws represents its own challenge calling for the utilization of advanced techniques including but not limited to deep reinforcement learning and model predictive control. 

The position is part of the Autonomous Robots Lab activities in resilient robotic autonomy across diverse operational conditions and environments. Foundation models represent one of the most promising avenues pushing the frontier of robot autonomy. Aiming to break new ground this PhD project focuses on developing novel foundation models for underwater robot perception and navigation. The aim is twofold: to advance foundation-model capabilities within the underwater domain, and to ensure that a unified modelling approach can operate across robot embodiments – air, ground, and marine. Salary and conditions

In the position of PhD Candidate, code 1017, your gross salary will normally be from NOK 550 800,- per annum depending on qualifications and seniority. A 2% statutory contribution to the State Pension Fund is deducted from the salary. 

The employment period is 3 years. 

For employment as a PhD Candidate, it is a prerequisite that you gain admission to the PhD program in Engineering Cybernetics within three months of your employment contract start date, and that you participate in an organized doctoral program throughout the period of employment.

About the project 

This project investigates the causal effects of Voting Advice Applications (VAAs) on political behavior. VAAs are increasingly prominent tools in modern electoral campaigns, yet rigorous causal evidence of their effects remains limited. The project leverages a collaboration with NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation), which operates one of Norway's most widely used VAAs, to run large-scale data collections and survey experiments in connection with the 2027 Norwegian election. The project aims to produce causal estimates of VAAs on vote choice, political engagement, and political knowledge. You will work with experienced researchers with a strong interest in causal inference, with the aim of publishing the research papers in top journals in Political Science. 

Duties of the position

We conduct research, teaching and dissemination in sociology, political science, media, communication and information technology, and sport sciences. Onder leiding van Chef de Cuisine Sébastien Oger staat AKKO voor een keuken waar knowhow, passie en precisie centraal staan. Sébastien deed ervaring op in gerenommeerde sterrenrestaurants en werkte onder meer onder de vleugels van Yves Mattagne en Wout Bru.

Functie

Als Chef de Partie maak je deel uit van het keukenteam van Martin’s Rentmeesterij.

Bouw mee aan de toekomst van de horeca

HUGGO is een Belgische startup die het aankoopproces van horecazaken volledig digitaliseert.

Restaurants bestellen vandaag nog steeds via e-mail, telefoon, WhatsApp en verschillende webshops van leveranciers. Daardoor ontbreekt het aan overzicht, prijstransparantie en efficiëntie.HUGGO brengt alle leveranciers samen op één platform, waardoor horecazaken hun volledige aankoopproces centraal kunnen beheren, prijzen in realtime vergelijken en efficiënter samenwerken met leveranciers.

De software werd ontwikkeld vanuit onze eigen horecagroep omdat we dit probleem dagelijks zelf ervaarden.

Vandaag:
