About the position

Are you interested in the present and future sea ice state in the Arctic Ocean?

There are several means of observing ice conditions in ice-choked waters. For some applications, daily or weekly information on sea ice is sufficient, whereas for maritime operations a much higher temporal resolution is needed — especially with regard to ice drift, so that onboard and remote operations are provided with accurate information for decision-making. Complex operations in the marginal ice zone with Autonomous Underwater Vehicles and Unmanned Surface Vehicles also rely on ice drift and general ice situational awareness at a high spatio-temporal resolution.

The project shall explore the use of marine radar onboard ice-going vessels as decision input for Arctic marine operations. The idea is to use the radar to identify the ice drift surrounding the vessel, and also to explore its potential for identifying concentration, floe size, geometry, and possibly stage of development. The plan is to build models so that radar measurements alone can be used to populate, as far as possible, the Stage of Development, Concentration, and Form fields — thereby obtaining a "live" Egg Code for decision-making onboard the vessel at all times.

About the project

This PhD position is affiliated with Arctic Ocean 2050, a ten-year Norwegian research initiative bringing together 18 institutions to explore how the Arctic Ocean will change over the coming decade. The program's vision is a sustainably and collaboratively managed Arctic Ocean, approached as one interconnected system spanning from the seafloor to the atmosphere, addressing the local, regional and global consequences of climate change in the region.

The initiative is organized around six research themes: global drivers and feedbacks, the changing Arctic Ocean, abrupt changes and adaptation, human activity in the Blue Arctic, modelling and observing, and Arctic pathways for policy-relevant solutions. This position contributes to the modelling and observing theme, developing radar-based methods for ice drift and situational awareness that feed directly into the program's broader research effort.

Required selection criteria

• You must have a relevant Master's degree in Cybernetics, Electrical Engineering, Remote Sensing, (Geo)Physics, Applied Mathematics, Marine Technology, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent. Your degree must include a major independent project (minimum 30 ECTS) equivalent to a master’s thesis
• Your course of study must correspond to a five-year Norwegian course, where 120 credits have been obtained at master's level. Master students can apply, but the master's degree must be obtained and documented before starting the position. 
• You must have a strong academic background from your previous studies and have an average grade from your Master's degree study, or equivalent education, which is equal to B or better compared to NTNU's grading scale. Salary and conditions

In the position of PhD Candidate, code 1017, your gross salary will normally be NOK 580 000,-per annum depending on qualifications and seniority. A 2% statutory contribution to the State Pension Fund is deducted from the salary. 

The employment period is 3 years.

For employment as a PhD Candidate, it is a prerequisite that you gain admission to the PhD programme in Engineering within three months of your employment contract start date, and that you participate in an organized doctoral programme through out the period of employment.

About the Job

Are you excited by the possibility of turning cellular imaging, drug-response data and cancer biology into better treatment predictions for individual patients? We have a two-year position for a researcher in computational high-content imaging analysis as part of the international EP PerMed project ERKetype.

ERKetype aims to develop digital twins as complex biomarkers for precision cancer medicine, with a particular focus on cancers driven by dysregulation of the RAS/RAF/MEK/ERK signalling pathway. The project combines patient-derived cancer models, Cell Painting and other high-content imaging approaches, pharmaco-proteomics, multi-omics data, artificial intelligence and mechanism-based modelling to understand why cancer cells respond — or fail to respond — to targeted therapies.

The researcher will be part of FlobakLab at NTNU (www.flobaklab.com), an interdisciplinary precision oncology group with expertise in both wet- and dry-lab research. In this position, you will play a central role in analysing Cell Painting and high-content imaging data from drug screens in cancer cell lines, patient-derived cancer organoids and patient-derived tumouroids. You will work closely with SINTEF Industry and its robotic high-throughput drug-screening facilities. The researcher will also have access to FlobakLab’s dedicated GPU workstation, equipped with 4 × RTX PRO 6000 Max-Q GPUs and supported by NVIDIA. Your work will include developing reproducible Python-based analysis pipelines, extracting and interpreting morphological drug-response signatures, and developing and implementing approaches to integrate imaging-derived phenotypes with mechanistic and knowledge-driven modelling frameworks.

This is an opportunity to work at the interface between computational biology, cancer systems medicine and translational precision oncology. You will collaborate closely with experimental, computational and clinical partners in Norway and internationally.

The position is well suited for a motivated researcher who wants to develop advanced imaging-data methods and apply them to clinically relevant questions in personalised cancer medicine.

Duties of the position

• Analyse Cell Painting and other high-content imaging data from drug-screening experiments in cancer cell lines, patient-derived cancer organoids and patient-derived tumouroids.
• Develop, run and document reproducible image-analysis workflows, including CellProfiler-based segmentation, feature extraction, image quality control and metadata handling.
• Develop Python-based pipelines for preprocessing, normalisation, batch correction, quality control, statistical analysis, visualisation and interpretation of large-scale imaging and drug-response datasets.
• Extract and interpret morphological drug-response signatures, including single-cell and population-level phenotypic profiles.
• Contribute to identification of phenotypic mechanisms of action from perturbation screens and link these to drug response, cancer biology and signalling pathway activity.
• Evaluate and implement advanced computational approaches for high-content imaging analysis, including cytomining workflows and, where relevant, CNN-based methods such as DeepProfiler or related deep-learning approaches.
• Integrate imaging-derived phenotypes with other data modalities, such as drug-response data, pharmaco-proteomics, genomics, transcriptomics and clinical or model metadata.
• Develop and implement approaches for connecting Cell Painting-derived phenotypes with mechanistic and knowledge-driven modelling frameworks, including Boolean, logic-based or related digital-twin modelling approaches.
• Work closely with SINTEF Industry and its robotic high-throughput drug-screening facilities, as well as experimental, computational and clinical collaborators at NTNU and partner institutions.
• Contribute to data management, documentation, reproducible research practices and sharing of analysis workflows and results within the ERKetype consortium.
• Contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, project deliverables and reports.

Salary and conditions

In the position of PhD Candidate, code 1017, your gross salary will normally be NOK 580 000,-per annum depending on qualifications and seniority. A 2% statutory contribution to the State Pension Fund is deducted from the salary. 

The employment period is four years, with 25% of the time devoted to career enhancing work assigned by the unit or the department.

About the position

Fundamental research in the cross section between computer science (unconventional computation) and close-to-physics computing (magnetic metamaterials) defines the aim and direction of the sought research. The candidate will be part of our multidiscipline Symbiotic computing group. Symbiotic is a dedicated research group with strong internal (and external) collaboration, focusing on a multidisciplinary approach as to define what future computers can be and do. Our mission is to realize a new computational paradigm that combines the versatility of the digital computer with the efficiency of close-to-physics computing. The group targets the full computational stack, from materials to computational models. The group has a leading role in European within the fields of unconventional computing, our Comet initiative, and Computer Architecture, our CAL initiative. About the project 

The key work of the position will be within our current project portfolio, as well as defining and establishing future projects. The posit will be defined within our close-to-physic sub-research direction to explore the reservoir computing unconventional computing models (non-von Neumann architectures) as a Methode for quantifying computational properties based on emergence and complex dynamics in nanomagnet systems. Nanomagnet metamaterials, Artificial Spin Ices, are the main substrates of interest. Intermediate the research focus is toward basic computational properties of such nanomagnet ASI systems with a transition to laboratory prove of principles to be able to move toward computational devices (HPC-simulations, and Synchrotron, MOKE and MFM experiments) based on nanomagnetic metamaterials. About the position

For a position as a PhD Candidate, the goal is a completed doctoral education up to an obtained doctoral degree.

We have a vacancy for a PhD Candidate in Databases and Search group for developing efficient search engines at the Department of Computer Science. 

The position is funded by Department of Computer Science at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The department is an active and dynamic environment for cutting edge research in all areas of computer science ranging from artificial intelligence to theoretical computer science. The department also hosts several high impact research groups that cover competencies relevant to the Norwegian industry such as the NorwAI and OpenAI laboratories. 

The topic of the doctoral research will on development of efficient and scalable search engines. This entails design of new retrieval models, efficient query processing, and use of modern hardware capabilities. Key skills that we are looking in the candidate are: excellent programming skills (preferably in Java, C++, or C), and good understanding of efficient data processing.

About the position

The Department of Geography and Social Anthropology at NTNU has a vacancy for a 3 years Postdoctoral Fellow position in Hydrology and Catchment Biogeochemistry.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will work on the project Adapting to climate risks via landscape-scale solutions: effects of peatland restoration on floods and water browning (ANTIPASTI). 
The project clarifies how peatland restoration modifies the way landscapes retain, transform and release water and biogeochemical elements, eventually affecting their capability of modulating floods and aquatic carbon fluxes.

The project is funded by the Research Council of Norway and realized in partnership with the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Italy), the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL, Switzerland), and the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA, Norway). 

As a Postdoctoral Fellow you will join an interdisciplinary, international and stimulating academic environment, with supporting colleagues for you to excel in your academic career. The Postdoctoral Fellow position may entail a secondary affiliation and recurrent research visits at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering of the University of Trento (Italy).

Duties of the position

• Carry out high-quality scientific research
• Publish research results in high-impact, peer-reviewed scientific journals
• Take responsibility for the field research activities of the project in collaboration with the PI

• Work on data-driven and modeling analyses related to soil saturation, hydrologic response and hydrologic functioning of peatland headwaters and river catchments

Required selection criteria

• You must have completed a doctoral degree in Hydrology, Geoscience, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography or similar fields of study. 
• If you are in the final phase of your doctorate and can document that the thesis has been submitted or that the defense date has been confirmed, your application can be considered even if you have not defended. NOTE: Documentation of the obtained doctorate must be presented before you can take up the position
• Previous research experience in the field of hydrology, catchment biogeochemistry, peatland restoration or other fields of study relevant to the project
• Authored publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals (also under review or submitted)
• Interest in field-based research and affinity for the outdoors

• Fluency in English and good writing skills

• Experience in at least one of the following (listed in priority order): i) field-based scientific research in hydrology or catchment biogeochemistry; ii) environmental surveying by means of unmanned aerial vehicles and use of the gathered data for scientific research; iii) development and application of analytical and numerical models and excellent programming skills

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 633 400,- per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

About the position

The Department of Design represents NTNU’s academic design environment and is responsible for research, teaching and academic development across the design disciplines, ranging from product design and interaction design to human-centred technology development and graphic design. The department is located in Trondheim and Gjøvik and contributes to the development of knowledge about how design, technology, and human needs shape the products, services, and systems of the future.

This position is affiliated with the NTNU Shore Control Lab, a leading interdisciplinary research environment that designs human-centred emerging technologies for the maritime domain. The lab works on the design and evaluation of complex sociotechnical and safety-critical systems for autonomous and remote operations across surface vessels, underwater robots, aerial drones, satellite systems, aquaculture technology, robotics, and other domains where human oversight, robustness, safety and operational complexity are central.

We are seeking an associate professor with strong research and innovation competence in human-computer interaction, human-centred design and the design of safety-critical systems and products. We are looking for a candidate who wishes to take part in developing NTNU Shore Control Lab towards an internationally leading research and education environment. You should have a solid understanding of technological systems, interdisciplinary development work and practical design research, and you can contribute both strategically and academically to the department’s priorities.

As an associate professor, you will spend approximately half of your time on teaching and half on research. You are expected to contribute to ongoing research and innovation projects, develop new research initiatives, and apply for external funding. • A doctoral degree (PhD) in design, interaction design, industrial design, or a closely related field
• Pedagogical competence
• Experience with experimental design research, user studies, interaction design and industrial design
• Strong technological understanding and experience collaborating with technology environments and industry
• Documented research competence with publications at a high international level
• Good language skills in English, both written and spoken
• Norwegian language skills at level B2

You must document relevant basic competence in teaching and supervision at a university/higher education-level, as referenced in the NTNUs guidelines for academic positions. If this cannot be documented, you will be required to complete an approved course in university pedagogy within two years of commencement. • Klantenbeheer: Je krijgt de verantwoordelijkheid over een bestaande portefeuille van professionele HVAC-installateurs in de regio Lokeren. Je onderhoudt deze relaties en bouwt ze strategisch verder uit.
• Commercieel advies: Je analyseert de noden van de installateur en adviseert hen proactief over onze energie-efficiënte oplossingen voor verwarming, ventilatie en sanitair.
• Hybride werking: Je verdeelt je tijd flexibel tussen het kantoor/filiaal in Lokeren (of thuis) en actieve bezoeken op de baan.
• Dossieropvolging: Je maakt zelfstandig offertes op, volgt deze nauwgezet op en zorgt voor een succesvolle commerciële afsluiting.

• Ervaring: Je hebt reeds relevante ervaring opgebouwd in een commerciële B2B-buitendienst of een gelijkaardige rol als accountmanager.
• Kennis: Een grondige product- en/of marktkennis binnen HVAC (verwarming, ventilatie en/of sanitair) is een absolute must om als volwaardig gesprekspartner te fungeren.
• Competenties: Je bent communicatief sterk, resultaatgericht, klantvriendelijk en je kunt zelfstandig een eigen regio organiseren.
