The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Researcher position in CMOS integrated circuit design for magnetic sensor interfaces. The position is part of a European research project developing high-performance integrated readout electronics for advanced sensing systems.
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to design CMOS readout and signal-conditioning electronics in advanced CMOS technology nodes. The work will address low-noise, low-power, and high-linearity interface circuits tailored to the electrical characteristics and performance requirements of the target sensors, including sensor biasing or excitation, precision amplification, offset and low-frequency-noise suppression, filtering, digitization, and calibration as required by the system specifications.
The research combines analog and mixed-signal IC design, sensor technology, and experimental characterization. The overarching goal is to realize a robust integrated interface that accurately converts low-level sensor signals into calibrated electrical or digital outputs for demanding sensing applications.
The successful candidate will work closely with researchers developing and characterizing sensor devices and with project partners responsible for system integration. The work spans circuit architecture, transistor-level design, physical implementation, tape-out, laboratory testing, and dissemination of research results.
The position is expected to start on October 1, 2026.
As an Analog IC Design, your key responsibilities will be:
Translate sensor characteristics and project-level requirements into electrical specifications and a CMOS sensor-interface architecture in close collaboration with project partners.
Design low-noise, low-power analog and mixed-signal circuits in advanced CMOS technology nodes, including sensor biasing or excitation, precision front-end amplification, offset and flicker-noise reduction, filtering, data conversion, and digital calibration or control where required.
Carry out the complete full-custom IC design flow from schematic and behavioral modeling through PVT, noise, and Monte Carlo verification, layout, DRC/LVS check, post-layout simulation, and tape-out.
Develop PCB-based test setups and measurement procedures, bring up the fabricated prototype, and characterize the CMOS interface together with the target sensor devices.
Document specifications, design decisions, verification results, and measurements; publish research outcomes and contribute actively to project coordination and technical discussions.
What we offer
A stimulating research environment within SDU Microelectronics, a growing section integrating expertise in analog/digital IC design, spintronics, neuromorphic computing, and energy-efficient system architectures.
Access to advanced facilities for design, characterization, and system prototyping.
Excellent opportunities for collaboration across SDU and with national and international academic and industrial partners in microelectronics, photonics, and quantum technologies.
Strong support for professional development through the Lecturer Training Programme and mentoring.
An open and collaborative research culture within SDU’s Faculty of Engineering (TEK), promoting interdisciplinary innovation across electronics, materials science, and artificial intelligence.
What we expect
Applicants should hold a PhD in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, or a closely related field (the degree should have been completed within the last 6 years at most):
Strong expertise in analog and mixed-signal CMOS IC design for sensor interfaces, with a solid understanding of low-noise and precision circuit techniques.
Hands-on experience with full-custom IC design and physical implementation in an industry-standard EDA environment, preferably in 65 nm CMOS or a comparable process, including simulation, layout, DRC/LVS check, and post-layout verification.
Solid understanding of noise, offset, mismatch, PVT variation, stability, linearity, and low-frequency-noise mitigation techniques such as chopping or auto-zeroing. Experience with data converters, digital calibration, or sensor excitation is an advantage.
Experience with at least one IC tape-out and laboratory characterization of fabricated silicon.
A strong publication record and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment is expected.
All candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written English skills, along with very good communication and collaboration abilities.
Workplace description
The successful candidate will join SDU Microelectronics, a dynamic and expanding section at the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IME). The section conducts internationally recognized research in integrated circuits, spintronics, photonics, and neuromorphic computing, and plays a central role in SDU’s ambition to be a national and European hub for semiconductor and chip innovation.

The Biotechnology section at the Department of Green Technology, Faculty of Engineering, University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a 3-year PhD position in immunomodulatory biomaterials starting September 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter, according to mutual agreement. The position is embedded within an ERC Starting Grant project DeCodeGels focused on De-Coding Adhesion, Degradation and Immunomodulation Properties of Self-Assembling Peptide Hydrogels for Programmed Tendon Regeneration (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101219936).
Project description
This project aims to develop new injectable self-assembling peptides (SAPs) biomaterials that simultaneously: i) possess improved adhesion to local tissues in vivo, ii) exhibit controlled degradation matching the desired regeneration outcome, and iii) allow tissue regeneration by enabling controlled immune cells invasion and progression of inflammation from neighbouring tissues. Following injury, inflammation is the trigger of tissue repair, however, chronic inflammation is detrimental. The persistent inflammatory nature of tendinopathy contributes to localized tissue damage, often developing to a low-grade chronic inflammation with recurring tears. The main goal of this position is development of an innovative therapeutic strategy utilizing temporally modulating SAPs biomaterials to guide healthy regeneration of tendon tissues via modulation of macrophage response.
The successful candidate will work at the interface of:
Innate immunity with a strong focus on understanding biology of macrophage cells
Physical chemistry and biomedical engineering of self-assembling peptide biomaterials
Functional validation in in vitro stromal cells (tenocytes, fibroblasts, etc.), in lab-on-chip devices, and in ex vivo tissue models
Responsibilities
Design, evaluate and characterize new injectable self-assembling peptide biomaterials
Investigate biological pathways of macrophage polarization via functional assays (PCR, ELISAs, flow cytometry) and involvement in larger omics analysis (transcriptomics, proteomics and/or metabolomics)
Evaluate enzymatic degradation pathways of peptides and the biological role of their fragments in immune signalling (including mass spectrometry and functional assays)
Utilize advanced imaging techniques to analyse peptide-macrophage interactions (light and/or electron based)
Contributing to B.Sc./M.Sc. student supervision, teaching and collaborative projects
Essential qualifications
MSc degree in physical chemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, nanotechnology, biomedicine, immunology, or related fields
Interest or hands-on experience with designing or characterization of self-assembling peptides or proteins
Experience with physical chemistry lab
Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture
Strong English communication skills (written and spoken)
Highly motivated, structured, and able to work both independently and in teams

Familiarity with either biomaterials characterization (e.g. formulation of hydrogels, rheology, titrations, HPLC, mass spectroscopy, scattering techniques, microscopy, mechanical testing, molecular adhesion testing, or similar) and/or characterization of mammalian cells (e.g. confocal microscopy, staining, ELISAs, flow cytometry, PCR, or similar)
Requirements to complete a PhD at SDU
Complete a study programme of 30 ECTS points
Participate in teaching and dissemination activities (e.g. conferences) corresponding to approx. one semester of full-time employment
Carry out at least one short external research stay (multiple possibilities will be offered at collaborators spanning European countries)
Complete a PhD thesis. According to the rules for a PhD thesis at the Faculty of Engineering at SDU the thesis must include internationally scientific peer-reviewed articles
