Heier du på fotball - og på folk? Da er du kanskje min neste assistent!
BPA NORD AS AVD NORDREISA
Norway, OLDERDALEN

PHD CANDIDATE IN EXPLAINABLE AI FOR DATA-DRIVEN PHYSIOLOGICAL AND BEHAVIORAL MODELLING OF CAR DRIVERS (m/f) Temporary contract | up to 48 months (14 months initial contract)| Full-time/40h | Belval Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment, and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data, and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions, and businesses in their strategies. In 2024, LIST and GOODYEAR signed the second phase of their partnership, 2024-2029, building on the outcomes of their previous collaboration and entering new technological areas as well. GOODYEAR-LIST Partnership 2.0 embraces Luxembourg's National priorities, such as Sustainability, Digital transformation and Circular economy, through the execution of six Strategic Research Programs: Data Science, Tire as a Sensor, End-of-Life Tire Valorization, Sustainable Materials for Non-Pneumatic Tires, Sustainable Materials for Next Generation of Pneumatic Tires, Structure-Process-Properties Relationships. As part of our Data Science strategic research program, we are looking for a PhD candidate in artificial intelligence and data analytics to analyse vehicle telemetry data along with physiological and behavioural data of test drivers and build explainable predictive models out of it. The research team spams Luxembourg, Europe and the USA and will make use of world-leading car simulator facilities. Work in the project comprises human-factors research, artificial intelligence and data analytics. Do you want to know more about LIST? Check our website: https://www.list.lu/ How will you contribute? The evaluation by test drivers of new tire designs in real situations is a key part of the tire development process. In this context the role of the tester and the feedback it gives about the car and tires behaviour is determinant for the tire engineers to build perfect tires. This feedback however is very subjective and varies from one driver to another, which makes it hard to build proper models without understanding the influencing human factors. Generally, the evaluation of physiological and behavioural data is a key part of understanding human-centric systems. In this context, the role of subjective and objective measures, and their integration, is crucial for creating robust and interpretable AI models. Today, the complexity of multi-dimensional data and the need for transparency pose significant challenges, which this PhD position aims to address via the very concrete case of simulated driving. You will: · Explore methods to disentangle and integrate objective and subjective data sources to separate overlapping signal components and isolate meaningful patterns in complex datasets. · Develop AI and XAI (explainable AI) models to analyse and interpret physiological and behavioural data, in combination with vehicle telemetry, to predict a driver's subjective tire handling rating. Knowledge-driven models using ontologies will be explored here with XAI models. · Investigate the precision and completeness of physiological data, proposing innovative and advanced solutions to handle missing data, outliers, and/or inconsistencies. · Incorporate subjective measures, such as ratings and feelings, into AI frameworks. · Contribute to the project's broader goals by integrating insights into actionable outcomes. Activities: · Conduct extensive background literature analysis, focusing on disentanglement, AI, XAI, and human-centric data analysis. · Elaborate validation use-cases, designing and planning data collection studies under controlled conditions. · Automate processes and explore state-of-the-art solutions for filtering, noise reduction, and kernel-based techniques. · Present your findings at academic conferences and publish research in peer-reviewed journals. · Write a PhD thesis in the field of AI and human-centric data analysis. · Take part in research and training activities as part of your PhD program. · Participate in outreach activities of LIST Is Your profile described below? PhD research fellowship (SKO 1017) in Innovation studies
UNIVERSITETET I OSLO SENTRALADMINISTRASJON
Norway, OSLO

About the position

One PhD research fellowship (SKO 1017) in Innovation studies is available at TIK Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture  at the University of Oslo.

The position forms a central part of the research project Capacities for Energy Transition Governance (CAPACITIES) funded by the Norwegian Research Council. The position is for three years, with a possibility of extension for teaching activities.

Project description

The CAPACITIES project investigates the capacities for effective governance of the ongoing energy transition in Norway.

Existing institutions in the energy domain do not always have practices, processes and policies in place to tackle today’s wicked challenges associated with the energy transition. This includes the territorial and sectoral conflicts of interest and competition for power supply both domestically and internationally. This project will focus on the cross-sectoral nature of the energy transition and study the multi-level governance and the iterative policy processes needed across national and local levels. It will comprise case studies of challenges and dilemmas at a national level as well as local initiatives to promote energy transitions.

The cross-sectoral and multi-level nature of the dilemmas associated with the energy transition cause a need to understand a) whether and how current governance structures constitute barriers for the energy transition ahead, and b) how to unleash the energy transition by revising established governance structures. These questions constitute key research questions to be explored in the CAPACITIES project and in the announced PhD-position.  Within the frames of the project the PhD candidate is expected to accomplish selected case studies and contribute to reviewing existing literature and policy. The candidate must develop a project proposal to be submitted as part of the application where relevant cases are further developed and thus show how the candidate’s project will contribute to the overarching CAPACITIES project. See more about the requirements for the project proposal below.

The CAPACITIES project description is available on request and should be consulted by the candidates.

The position encompasses possibilities for teaching tasks within TIK’s bachelor teaching and master programs, including supervision of students within these programs, according to the TIK Centre’s needs and the candidate’s profile or competencies. If such tasks are agreed upon, the contract will be extended accordingly for up to a year.

Qualification requirements and assessment criteria

  • Applicants must hold a two-year Master’s degree (or equivalent qualifications) and meet the formal requirements for admittance to the Faculty of Social Sciences’ PhD programme within relevant disciplines in the social sciences.
  • The Master’s degree must be of high quality (grade A or B) and from a relevant social science discipline such as sustainability transitions studies, innovation studies, economic geography, political science or studies in science, technology and society (STS). The thesis should be within a specialisation of relevance to the project.
  • Applicants must have fluent oral and written communication skills in English and speak a Scandinavian language fluently. The latter is because the data collection will be based on Norwegian materials and accomplished in close collaboration with the two national user partners in the project.
  • The successful candidate is expected to take active part in project-activities and in seminars and workshops at TIK. Residency in or close to Oslo is therefore a requirement.

Applicants will be assessed on the quality and relevance of the project proposal, their academic grades and their academic experience and personal skills of relevance for carrying out the project.

Academic and personal potential of the applicant for fulfilling the project within the given timeframe as well as the applicant’s skills tied to communication, curiosity and cooperation will also be taken into consideration.

Experience with and/or understanding of the Norwegian policy context and with qualitative empirical research will be seen as an advantage. The hiring process will include an interview with the most qualified candidates.
