About the position

Position as PhD Research Fellow in Identity and Access Management available at Department of Informatics.

The fellowship period is three years.

Depending on the candidate and the teaching needs of the department, the fellowship period can be extended either for compulsory work consisting of e.g., teaching and supervision duties and research assistance up to four years.

Starting date no later than December 31st, 2026.

No one can be appointed for more than one PhD Research Fellowship period at the University of Oslo.

Place of work is Department of Informatics at Blindern, Oslo.


Job description

As digital services permeate nearly every part of daily life, identity and access management are increasingly vital. New approaches such as self-sovereign identities and FIDO2 passkeys present promising possibilities and are being supported by policy and legal initiatives like eIDAS and the EU Digital Identity Wallet. At the same time, these systems may encounter obstacles, including limited user acceptance, privacy concerns, and inherited weaknesses from legacy authentication methods. This research fellowship will investigate contemporary identity and access solutions and develop methods to evaluate their security, usability, and privacy.

The fellowship position is located at the Department of Informatics, and specifically in the Digital Security research group. The Digital Security research group currently has 12 full- and part-time faculty members and several postdoctoral researchers and PhD students. The research group conducts research in various areas of information and cyber security, focusing on fundamental aspects as well as on applications in multi-disciplinary contexts. We work in collaboration with leading national and international research partners from both academia and industry. Current research topics include identity management, cyber threat intelligence, AI applied to cyber security, ethical hacking, and privacy and data protection. What skills are important in this role?

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition to be among Europe’s leading communities for research, education and innovation. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

Required qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Informatics or Mathematics
  • Foreign completed degree (M.Sc.-level) corresponding to a minimum of four years in the Norwegian educational system
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English

Candidates without a master’s degree have until August 31, 2026 to complete the final exam.

Desired qualifications:

  • Documented previous experience in information/cyber security
  • Documented previous experience in identity and access management
  • Documented hands-on programming experience

The norm is as follows:

  • The average grade point for courses included in the Bachelor’s degree must be C or better in the Norwegian educational system
  • The average grade point for courses included in the Master’s degree must be B or better in the Norwegian educational system
  • The Master’s thesis must have the grade B or better in the Norwegian educational system

Professor/førsteamanuensis innen kunstig intelligens

Ved Fakultet for ingeniørvitenskap og teknologi,  Aker Nscale Innovation Centre Narvik @UiT, er det ledig to faste stillinger som professor/førsteamanuensis innen kunstig intelligens med arbeidssted Narvik.

UiT Norges arktiske universitet og Aker Nscale har inngått et strategisk partnerskap for å styrke kompetansemiljøene i Narvik og Nord-Norge, fremme utviklingen av det norske økosystemet for kunstig intelligens (KI) og bidra til å etablere et KI-miljø i verdensklasse. Som en del av dette samarbeidet investerer Aker Nscale 100 millioner kroner over 10 år for å støtte utviklingen av UiTs fagmiljøer. Aker Nscale Innovation Centre Narvik @ UiT er et nyopprettet senter finansiert gjennom dette partnerskapet.

Senteret fokuserer på forskning, innovasjon, utdanning og næringsutvikling innen kunstig intelligens, teknologisk utvikling og bærekraftige løsninger. Med base i Narvik – en by kjent for sitt sterke teknologimiljø og spektakulære natur – skal senteret bidra til å styrke både regionale og nasjonale forsknings- og innovasjonsmiljøer.

 Det er etablert et styre for senteret bestående av representanter fra Aker Nscale, Nordkraft, Narvik kommune og UiT Norges arktiske universitet. 

I oppstartsfasen vil senteret bestå av to faste vitenskapelige stillinger og 2-4 rekrutterings-/stipendiatstillinger, med mål om å bygge et robust og fremtidsrettet fagmiljø.


Om stillingene og UiT

Stillingene som professor eller førsteamanuensis er tilknyttet Aker Nscale Innovation Centre Narvik @UiT. Stillingene er organisert under  Fakultet for ingeniørvitenskap og teknologi (IVT-fakultetet).

UiT Norges arktiske universitet er verdens nordligste universitet med vel 3700 ansatte og rundt 17000 studenter. Vi er et breddeuniversitet som bidrar til en kunnskapsbasert utvikling regionalt, nasjonalt og internasjonalt. IVT-fakultetet har fem institutt med totalt ca. 1000 studenter og ca. 200 ansatte. IVTs faglige profil omfatter et bredt spekter av ingeniørfaglige områder, inkl. elektrofag, datateknologi, automasjon, byggfag og industriell teknologi. Fakultetets primære oppgaver er forskning, undervisning, formidling og innovasjon. IVT har et bredt forskningssamarbeid med en rekke forskningsmiljøer lokalt, nasjonalt og internasjonalt.

UiT har et sterkt fagmiljø innen kunstig intelligens og maskinlæring på tvers av enheter og lokasjoner. Som ansatt ved Aker Nscale Innovation Centre Narvik @UiT vil du dra veksler på helheten i UiTs fagmiljø, og være en sentral del i utviklingen av en bred satsing ved UiT. 

Stillingene har ekstern finansiering for 10 år. 

Arbeidssted er UiT i Narvik. Du må kunne starte i stillingen innen rimelig tid etter å ha mottatt tilbud.


Stillingens forsknings-/arbeidsområde

For begge stillingene gjelder følgende :

  • Utvikle og implementere senterets strategiske planer i samarbeid med styret.
  • Bygge og vedlikeholde relasjoner med regionale, nasjonale og internasjonale samarbeidspartnere.
  • Initiere, lede og koordinere forsknings- og innovasjonsaktiviteter.
  • Identifisere og sikre finansiering til prosjekter gjennom nasjonale og internasjonale virkemidler.
  • Representere senteret i relevante fora og styrke dets posisjon som en ledende aktør innen KI og innovasjon.
  • Følge opp studentinnovasjoner og arbeide med å tilpasse utdanningsløp

Vi søker kandidater som kan undervise, forske, formidle og veilede master og ph.d. studenter, samt bidra i utviklingsoppgaver innen KI. 

Du vil bidra til å styrke vår forskning innen KI, samt etablere samarbeid og interaksjon med eksisterende ansatte i fakultetets forskningsgrupper.

Vi forventer at du deltar i forskningsgruppesamarbeid og profesjonelle nettverk både nasjonalt og internasjonalt, samt bidrar til formidling av forskning til et bredere publikum. Stillingen innebærer også deltakelse i søknader om forskningsmidler (Forskningsrådet/EU).

Kvalifikasjoner

For stilling som professor innen KI krever vi: 

Du må kvalifisere for stilling som professor innenfor fagområdet kunstig intelligens, eller andre relevante naturvitenskapelige eller teknologiske fagområder i henhold til krav gjengitt i § 3-7 i Forskrift til universitets- og høyskoleloven (universitets- og høyskoleforskriften)

  • Doktorgrad innen kunstig intelligens, eller andre relevante naturvitenskapelige eller teknologiske fagområder
  • Dokumenterte resultater med å skaffe finansiering til forsknings- og innovasjonsprosjekter. Erfaring med søknader om ekstern forskningsfinansiering. 
  • God kjennskap til akademia og god forståelse for innovasjonsprosesser og næringsutvikling, og gjerne med erfaring fra samarbeid mellom akademia og næringsliv.
  • Sterke kommunikasjonsevner på engelsk, både skriftlig og muntlig. 
  • Det kreves ferdigheter i et skandinavisk språk på minimum nivå B2 i Det felles europeiske rammeverket for språk. Nye ansatte som ikke oppfyller språkkravet, må gjøre det innen tre år etter tiltredelse. UiT vil legge til rette for gjennomføring av norskkurs.

Selvstendig forskning utover doktorgrad skal dokumenteres med vitenskapelige publikasjoner som ikke er publisert sammen med veilederne fra doktorgraden.

Erfaring med søknad om ekstern forskningsfinansiering betyr at søker kan dokumentere selvstendig søknadsarbeid, men ikke nødvendigvis må ha oppnådd ekstern finansiering. Søknadsevalueringer som viser søknadskvaliteten vil være nyttig for å vurdere søkers kvalifikasjoner. Bidrag på større søknader kan også vurderes dersom bidraget dokumenteres. 

Internasjonal mobilitet vil bli vurdert i forhold til varighet/antall opphold og hvorvidt det har gitt resultater i form av vitenskapelige publikasjoner og/eller felles søknader om ekstern forskningsfinansiering.  

Vitenskapelig samarbeid, nasjonalt og/eller internasjonalt, bør dokumenteres gjennom felles publikasjoner og/eller søknadsarbeid.

UiT ønsker kjønnsbalanse i undervisnings- og forskerstillinger. Ved likeverdige kvalifikasjoner vil kvinner prioriteres.

Krav til utdanningsfaglig kompetanse (basiskompetanse)

Alle søkere til undervisnings- og forskerstillinger skal i søknaden dokumentere sin utdanningsfaglige kompetanse.

De som ikke oppfyller kravene ved ansettelsen, vil bli pålagt å oppfylle kravene innen to år. UiT tilbyr kurs i utdanningsfaglig kompetanse til ansatte. 

Du må ha opparbeidet grunnleggende kompetanse for undervisning og veiledning på universitets- og høyskolenivå. Dette medfører grunnleggende ferdigheter innen planlegging, gjennomføring, evaluering og utvikling av undervisning og veiledning.

Arbeids- og lønnsvilkår 

Du må være villig til å engasjere deg i utviklingsarbeid innen eget fag, og for universitetet som helhet. 

Ved UiT er fordelingen av arbeidstid fleksibel og tildeles på individuelt grunnlag. Som en norm vil professorer og førsteamanuenser bruke inntil 50 % av tida til FoU-arbeid og 50 % til undervisning,  når tid til andre arbeidsoppgaver er trukket fra. Som norm avsettes 5 % til administrative oppgaver. 

Professor lønnes etter statens regulativ kode 1013 med en brutto årslønn i 100 % stilling mellom kr 885000,- - 1100000,-. I særskilte tilfeller kan høyere lønn vurderes. 

Førsteamanuensis lønnes etter statens regulativ kode 1011 med en brutto årslønn i 100 % stilling mellom kr 690000,- - 950 000,-. I særskilte tilfeller kan høyere lønn vurderes. Fra bruttolønn trekkes det 2 % pliktig innskudd til Statens pensjonskasse.  


Vurdering av søkerne

Søkerne vil bli vurdert av en sakkyndig komité. Komiteens mandat er å foreta en vurdering av søkernes kvalifikasjoner på grunnlag av søknadsdokumentene og kunngjøringsteksten.  

Søkere som vurderes å være best kvalifisert vil bli innkalt til intervju. Intervjuet skal blant annet avklare personlig egnethet og motivasjon for stillingen. Det kan også bli avholdt prøveforelesning.
