About the role We require a passionate and knowledgeable geologist with leadership or management experience. The chosen candidate will work on a variety of iron ore mining projects for a globally recognised miner, and is responsible for implementing workflow procedures based on direction from the company’s General Manager, specifically responsible for the AES staff and operations within Gällivare. The duties include supervising employees during day-to-day tasks and managing the overall workflow within the workplace. The candidate will be responsible for supervising geological and geotechnical data collection on projects at different development stages ranging from greenfield exploration to feasibility studies to advanced production stages, within the ‘Malmfälten’ mining Province of Northern Sweden. Main responsibilities Supervision of geological and geotechnical data-collection, ensuring best practice is followed. Assist with recruitment when required, plan the introduction, training and development of current and new staff. Staff performance evaluation, development talks and salary talks. Address physical or psychosocial workplace issues and risks. Undertake actions to create a safe, respectful and inclusive team environment, ensuring employees adhere to the company’s policies and guidelines. Audit and perform adequate quality control checks of various data sets, overseeing QA/QC protocols to ensure the highest quality of data. Education and qualifications The candidate must have a BSc or MSc degree in Geology or Geotechnical Engineering. Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate fluently in English in both speaking and writing is mandatory. Knowledge of Swedish is advantageous. A full, clean driving license is also mandatory for this position. Location The position will be based in Gälliavre, although travel to other locations in Sweden is sometimes required. The research subject Structural Engineering is now seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher contributing towards science and technology in condition assessments. In our department we strive for everyone to develop in the subject and as a person. Subject description Structural Engineering includes loads, design, sustainability, load carrying capacity, repair and strengthening, of buildings and civil engineering structures made of concrete, steel, wood and other materials, separately or in combination, at normal conditions, in cold climate and in fire. Project description The project, Drive-by monitoring, develops, validates, and demonstrates a vehicle-based monitoring system for continuous condition assessment of bridges, where vibration data are collected using trains, buses, and municipal service vehicles. The objective is to advance the method from a research concept to large-scale implementation in urban environments, supporting proactive and data-driven bridge management. The work includes system development and data analysis (sensor integration, data acquisition, signal processing, and indicators based on vehicle–bridge interaction), as well as structural validation in real-world environments through comparison with reference sensors and analysis of operational and environmental influences. The project is carried out in collaboration with municipalities and industry partners and includes the development of decision-support tools for maintenance planning and prioritization. Duties You will conduct research with substantial experimental and data-driven components that are expected to result in publications in peer-reviewed international journals and presentations at major conferences. Your work will include: - Plan and conduct experiments and field tests related to drive-by monitoring - Analyze vibration data from vehicle- and bridge-mounted sensors - Develop and validate condition indicators and decision-support tools - Collaborate with external partners in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of field installations - Contribute to supervision, teaching, and research proposals Qualifications To be eligible for this postdoctoral position, you must hold a PhD in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field, with specialization relevant to structural health monitoring, bridge engineering, structural dynamics, and/or condition assessment. The doctoral degree must be completed at the time of appointment. The following qualifications and experience are required: - Documented research experience in structural health monitoring or bridge condition assessment, preferably with a focus on vibration-based or indirect monitoring methods - Strong publication record - Experience in experimental and/or field-based research, including sensor-based measurements - Experience with instrumentation and analysis of dynamic structural responses - Good understanding of vehicle–bridge interaction and structural dynamics - Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English, and the ability to work both independently and in interdisciplinary collaborations The following qualifications will be considered meritorious: - Experience in drive-by monitoring or indirect monitoring methods - Experience with full-scale testing and collaboration with infrastructure owners or managers - Experience in supervision - Knowledge of data-driven methods, signal processing, or machine learning - Familiarity with sustainable infrastructure management Further information Full-time fixed term employment for two years with placement in Luleå.
