Post-doctoral position at Max-Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology   The Becker group at the Max-Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology is looking for a post-doctoral candidate in the field of (bio)organic chemistry to join our multi-disciplinary team to work in the field of nucleic acid research. These modifications expand the chemical diversity of nucleic acids, influencing their structure, function, and stability. By harnessing this chemical diversity, we aim to develop nucleic acid aptamers with enhanced functionality. Our research combines nucleic acid chemistry, solid-phase DNA/RNA synthesis, and advanced methodologies such as next-generation sequencing and mass spectrometry for the analysis of nucleic acids and their modifications. This work holds potential for the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic tools. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who has recently obtained (or be about to receive) a PhD in organic or bioorganic chemistry with a keen interest in nucleic acid research. Experience with Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment (SELEX) is beneficial but not required. The ideal candidate will possess: - Strong background in synthetic chemistry and analytical techniques. - Sharp mind: adept at problem-solving and possessing exceptional organizational skills. - Independence: ability to guide PhD Students in planning and implementing experiments. - Conceptual skills and innovative thinking: proficiency in understanding complex experimental setups, devising novel solutions or adapting existing ones to tackle challenges. - Team player: strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team are essential for success in this role. The position offers opportunities for collaboration with internal and external scientists to analyse and interpret novel findings using innovative methods. This role will contribute to ongoing projects while fostering the development of independent research initiatives. The position is available immediately and is limited to 18 months with the possibility of prolongation. ERC-funded Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) in Zebrafish Optogenetics & Single-cell Genomics (Berlin) Our group builds quantitative models of how different epigenetic layers of transcriptional regulation interact during vertebrate embryonic development. This role focuses on the systematic, spatially and temporally controlled perturbation of signalling pathways and transcription-factor logic in the zebrafish embryo, using inducible and optogenetic approaches, coupled with single-cell multiome read-outs. You will work at the interface of experimental and computational biology in close collaboration with members of our computational team. In silico trials — computer-based simulations of clinical scenarios — offer a powerful alternative: by creating digital twins of patients and implants, treatment outcomes can be tested rapidly and safely, without invasive procedures or large-scale clinical studies. STRIVE aims to develop a regulatory-aligned computational framework for personalized vascular interventions, with an initial focus on intracranial aneurysms. The project combines advanced simulation methods, experimental validation, and close collaboration with clinicians and industry partners, ultimately enabling faster implant development, safer preoperative planning, and a meaningful reduction in the number of animal and human trials. What we offer: - The salary will be based on the German E13 TV-L scale (100%), if terms and conditions under collective bargaining law are fulfilled - A full-time employment, currently 38.5 hours/week; a part-time employment may be possible within the framework of certain working time models - Flexible working hours to accommodate individual needs - Interdisciplinary research at the intersection of medicine, physics, engineering, and computer science - A vibrant, international biomedical research group embedded within a university hospital setting Your tasks: - Develop data-driven surrogate models to replace computationally expensive physics-based simulations for aneurysm treatment, namely, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element modeling (FEM), enabling rapid, on-demand simulation of patient-specific treatment scenarios - Design and implement machine learning (ML) pipelines using full-fidelity CFD and FEM data, ensuring models generalize across patient geometries and device configurations - Integrate trained surrogate models into the broader in silico trial framework and evaluate their accuracy, robustness, and computational efficiency against full-fidelity simulations - Explore AI-based methods for treatment outcome prediction and device optimization, contributing to the framework's clinical decision-support capabilities - Collaborate closely with clinicians, scientists, and engineers to develop and validate cutting-edge simulation techniques - Lead and co-author scientific publications, and represent the project at international conferences Your profile: - PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related field with a strong computational focus - Strong practical experience in machine learning for scientific applications — including surrogate modeling, reduced-order models (ROM), or physics-informed machine learning (PIML/PINNs) — is the core technical foundation of the role - Proficiency in Python and relevant ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX) is essential - Familiarity with CFD, FEM, or other numerical simulation methods is a significant advantage - Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments is beneficial Please submit a motivation letter and CV, including, where applicable, degree certificates and job references, as a single PDF until 22.
