We are now looking for a Project Researcher to join us in History, Culture and Communication Studies Research Unit (HIKUVIE) within the Faculty of Humanities for a fixed-term position lasting until 31.5.2026 (full time) or 30.9.2026 (part time, 50%). HIKUVIE includes the following disciplines: Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology, History, History of Sciences and Ideas, and Information and Communication Studies. The Faculty of Humanities was recently awarded funding through the NOSTE programme from the University of Oulu Graduate School (UniOGS) to improve the work-life relevance of doctoral training for researchers in HIKUVIE. A committee representing HIKUVIE is leading this effort, which will include an initial research component followed by strategic planning for organizational change which is aimed to improve the educational, professional, and personal outcomes of doctoral researchers in the Faculty. About the job As a project researcher, you will work in the data collection and writing of this NOSTE project that is focused on the doctoral experiences and career pathways of former University of Oulu doctoral students. For this effort, you will: - compile a complete list of former doctoral students who have received their PhD degree since 2010, as well as names of as many people as possible who started but did not finish their degrees; - develop and issue a web survey (Finnish and English versions) to HIKUVIE alumni; - analyse the results of the web survey; - conduct semi-structured interviews with HIKUVIE alumni, focusing on their experiences as doctoral students and their professional trajectory after completing (or abandoning) their PhDs; - write up a report of cumulative findings for review by HIKUVIE staff and Faculty administrators. The Unit's project committee will provide limited oversight and support of the project researcher in the above duties, with regular check-ins. The project researcher is thus expected to work with a high degree of independence and autonomy. The Center for Climate Systems Modeling (C2SM) at ETH Zurich is a joint, interdisciplinary center linking ETH Zurich with partner institutions. It provides a technology and networking platform to support the development and application of Earth system, weather, and climate modeling, data infrastructure, and impact research. The position will involve close collaboration with the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS). There is an ever-increasing amount and diversity of Earth observations collected from satellites, airborne instruments, and in-situ measurement networks. Harnessing these data effectively is essential for advancing our understanding of the Earth system. To address this challenge, a robust data management framework is being developed to make rapidly growing Earth-system datasets accessible and usable for the scientific community. The Earth Systems Data Manager will play a key role in shaping this framework. The position focuses on identifying and evaluating satellite and observational datasets relevant to research across disciplines, curating and documenting data collections to ensure quality and scientific value, and establishing metadata and access standards to support data discovery and reproducibility. Digital Laboratory & Data Manager - DTU Chemistry

DTU Chemistry is an internationally leading department of chemistry with a high level of research activity and a strong focus on training the next generation of engineers in chemistry. The department is undergoing a digital transformation that will strengthen the impact and value of all research performed. Recent investments in advanced automation, including synthesis robots and high-throughput reactor systems, combined with the implementation of a visionary data management strategy, will provide a unique environment for data-rich research supported by machine learning and AI.

Responsibilities
As Digital Laboratory & Data Manager, you will play a central role in building, securing, and implementing DTU Chemistry’s digital laboratory ecosystem. Your responsibilities will span data stewardship, platform management, and instrumentation, including:

  • Lead the department’s data management strategy, ensuring compliance with FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) and Open Science.
  • Develop and support digital workflows, including adoption of ELN/LIMS (Electronic Lab Notebook/Laboratory Information Management System) and integration of instruments, sensors, and databases.
  • Manage and operate automated laboratory platforms (synthesis robots, high-throughput reactors), ensuring safe use, maintenance, and reliable data collection.
  • Support research groups in designing end-to-end data strategies for projects and grants, including AI/ML opportunities.
  • Train researchers and students in digital best practices and act as a liaison between scientists, IT specialists, and facility managers.
  • Foster collaborations within DTU and with external stakeholders to strengthen data science and automation initiatives.

Qualifications
In this role, you will interact with a wide range of researchers and staff. You must be able to inspire and motivate them to adopt new digital workflows, automation practices, and data management principles. Your profile includes:

  • A degree in natural sciences with knowledge of research data management, or a PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, automation, or related fields.
  • Experience with instrumentation management, calibration, and laboratory safety will be considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, FAIR principles, and digital workflows; experience with data analysis and AI/ML is an advantage.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work across disciplines and organizational levels.
  • Interest in automated laboratory systems, robotics, or high-throughput experimentation, and familiarity with ELN/LIMS is preferable.

You are employed as an Academic Officer, Senior Officer, Senior Executive Officer.

The position is a full-time position. Starting date is 1 March 2026 (or according to mutual agreement).

The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.
